Key Responsibilities

DISH is seeking a Senior Spacecraft Engineer to manage, support, and execute spacecraft subsystem operations, including telemetry, tracking, and command (TT&C) activities, in alignment with both scheduled and dynamic operational needs. Responsibilities include monitoring spacecraft health, generating reports, and communicating project statuses to all organizational levels while prioritizing customer service. The role also involves enhancing team skills and personal professional development.

Responsibilities Include:
  • Assess spacecraft functionality and troubleshoot subsystem operations to maximize service quality and prolong mission duration.
  • Maintain situational awareness regarding spacecraft and broadcast operations, corporate goals, and industry advancements.
  • Offer guidance and support to spacecraft controllers during operational tasks.
  • Provide 24/7 on-call engineering assistance on a rotating schedule; address anomalies, guide controllers, and facilitate resolution efforts.
  • Develop, review, and optimize operational procedures, tools, and processes to ensure safe and efficient task execution.
  • Manage and publish the operational activity schedule.
  • Update and review spacecraft status documentation.
  • Plan and oversee complex payload reconfigurations to facilitate broadcast operations.
  • Contribute to new spacecraft development initiatives.
  • Analyze design specifications to confirm requirements, engage in ground testing of new spacecraft, and oversee in-orbit testing and evaluation.
  • Investigate and analyze spacecraft performance trends over varying timeframes.
  • Establish monitoring standards for all spacecraft subsystems.
  • Plan and execute spacecraft maneuvers, including maneuver reconstruction and orbit strategy preparation.
  • Direct the planning and execution of orbital relocation operations as needed.
  • Research, develop, and present training materials to meet both initial and ongoing requirements.
  • Innovate and review new processes, methods, scripts, and tools utilized by engineering and operations teams.
  • May assist in recruiting, onboarding, and mentoring interns or junior engineers, including task delegation.
  • Apply expertise and judgment to devise and implement innovative strategies for dynamic operational requirements.
  • Organize projects that involve multiple subsystems or functional areas.
  • Coordinate with external stakeholders.
Work Environment: Business casual attire is expected.

Working Conditions: The workspace is adjacent to a 24/7 operations center. Standard working hours are Monday through Friday, but flexibility for off-hours, weekends, and holidays is required based on operational demands. Travel may be necessary up to 10%.

Skills, Experience, and Qualifications

Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, physics, or mathematics from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of 6 years of spacecraft engineering experience within the satellite industry.
Skills and Qualifications:
  • Must be a U.S. Person (citizen or lawful permanent resident) due to access to export-restricted materials.
  • Ability to participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation and respond on-site within 30 minutes.
  • Proficient in mathematical concepts including probability, statistics, calculus, and geometry.
  • Skilled in applying engineering principles and scientific methods to real-world challenges.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and reasoning skills.
  • Capable of interpreting complex technical instructions and managing multiple variables.
  • Experience with MAXAR FS1300 or Lockheed Martin A2100 spacecraft is preferred.
  • Familiarity with Kratos ISI EPOCH TT&C, OASYS, MATLAB, and AGI STK software is advantageous.
  • Knowledge in spacecraft subsystems such as Attitude Control, Propulsion, Power, Data Handling, Thermal, and Flight Dynamics is a plus.
  • Detail-oriented with a proactive approach and strong communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively in a multi-team environment.
  • Proficient in written and verbal communication, capable of conveying technical concepts to diverse audiences.
Compensation and Benefits

Salary range: $125,000.00 - $155,000.00 per year.
