Key Responsibilities

DISH is seeking a Senior Spacecraft Engineer to plan, support, execute, and supervise TT&C and spacecraft subsystem operations. This includes spacecraft commanding and stationkeeping activities aligned with both scheduled and dynamic operational needs. The role involves trending and analyzing spacecraft health data, preparing reports, and communicating the status of spacecraft and operational activities across all organizational levels while maintaining a focus on customer service. The responsibilities include:
  • Assessing spacecraft performance and troubleshooting subsystem operations to enhance service quality and prolong mission life.
  • Maintaining situational awareness of spacecraft and broadcast operations, aligning with company objectives and advancements in the aerospace and communication sectors.
  • Providing guidance and support to spacecraft controllers during operational tasks.
  • Offering 24x7 on-call engineering support on a rotating schedule; responding to anomalies, directing controllers, and facilitating anomaly resolution.
  • Developing, reviewing, and optimizing spacecraft procedures, tools, and processes essential for safe and efficient operational execution.
  • Managing and publishing the operations activity schedule.
  • Updating and reviewing spacecraft status reports.
  • Planning and directing complex payload reconfigurations to support broadcast operations.
  • Supporting new spacecraft development initiatives.
  • Analyzing design documentation to ensure compliance with requirements, participating in ground testing of new spacecraft, and overseeing in-orbit testing and evaluation activities.
  • Investigating and analyzing both long- and short-term spacecraft performance trends.
  • Establishing standards for monitoring all spacecraft subsystems.
  • Overseeing, planning, and executing spacecraft maneuvers, including maneuver reconstruction and orbit determination.
  • Directing the planning and execution of spacecraft orbital relocation operations as required.
  • Researching, developing, and presenting intermediate-level training materials to meet initial or recurring requirements.
  • Conceptualizing, developing, and reviewing new processes, methods, scripts, and tools utilized by engineering and operations teams.
  • Assisting with the hiring, onboarding, and mentoring of interns or junior engineers, including occasional guidance and work assignment.
  • Applying experience and professional judgment to evaluate, create, and implement innovative strategies to support dynamic operational needs.
  • Organizing projects that involve multiple subsystems or functional areas.
  • Coordinating with external stakeholders.
Work Environment: Business casual attire is expected.

Working Conditions: The workspace is adjacent to a 24x7 operations center. Typical working hours are Monday through Friday during standard business hours, with the requirement to support work and on-call duties during off-hours, weekends, and holidays as needed. Up to 10% travel may be required.

Skills, Experience, and Requirements

Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree (B.S.) in engineering, physics, or mathematics from an accredited institution.
  • A minimum of 6 years of spacecraft engineering experience within the satellite industry.
Skills and Qualifications:
  • Must be a U.S. Person (a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident) due to access requirements for U.S. export-restricted materials.
  • Ability to fulfill a 24x7 on-call rotation and respond onsite within 30 minutes.
  • Proficient in mathematical concepts including probability, statistical inference, calculus, and geometry.
  • Experience with spacecraft engineering, particularly with MAXAR FS1300 or Lockheed Martin A2100 spacecraft is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with Kratos ISI EPOCH TT&C and OASYS, MATLAB, and AGI STK software is advantageous.
  • General or specialized knowledge in spacecraft subsystems such as Attitude Control, Propulsion, Power, Data Handling, Thermal, Mechanisms, TT&C, Payload, Flight Dynamics, and Orbit Mechanics is a plus.
  • Strong attention to detail, proactive attitude, and effective communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate in a multi-team environment to achieve objectives.
  • Proficient in interpreting technical instructions and communicating complex concepts to diverse audiences.
Compensation and Benefits

Salary range: $125,000.00 - $155,000.00 per year.
