Responsibilities and Duties

DISH is seeking a Senior Spacecraft Engineer to plan, support, execute, and oversee TT&C and spacecraft subsystem operations. This includes spacecraft commanding and stationkeeping activities tailored to both scheduled and dynamic operational needs. The role involves analyzing spacecraft health data, preparing reports, and communicating operational statuses to all organizational levels while emphasizing customer service. Continuous improvement of team and personal skills is also a priority.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assess spacecraft performance and troubleshoot subsystem operations to enhance service quality and prolong mission life.
  • Maintain awareness of spacecraft and broadcast operations, company goals, and advancements in the aerospace and communication sectors.
  • Provide guidance and support to spacecraft controllers during operational tasks.
  • Offer 24x7 on-call engineering support on a rotating schedule; respond to anomalies, guide controllers, and facilitate anomaly resolution.
  • Develop, review, manage, and optimize spacecraft procedures, tools, and processes for safe and efficient operations.
  • Review and publish the operational activity schedule.
  • Update and assess spacecraft status reports.
  • Plan and direct complex payload reconfigurations to enhance broadcast operations.
  • Support the development of new spacecraft.
  • Analyze design documentation to verify requirements and participate in ground testing of new spacecraft.
  • Investigate and analyze spacecraft performance trends over both short and long terms.
  • Establish monitoring standards for all spacecraft subsystems.
  • Oversee and execute spacecraft maneuvers, including maneuver reconstruction and orbit determination.
  • Direct the planning and execution of spacecraft orbital relocation operations as needed.
  • Research, develop, and present training materials to meet initial or recurring requirements.
  • Conceptualize and review new processes, methods, scripts, and tools for engineering and operations teams.
  • May assist in hiring, onboarding, and mentoring interns or junior engineers, guiding and assigning work as necessary.
  • Utilize experience and professional judgment to devise innovative strategies for dynamic operational needs.
  • Organize projects involving multiple subsystems or functional areas.
  • Coordinate with external entities.
Work Attire: Business casual

Working Conditions: The workspace is adjacent to a 24x7 operations center. Typical work hours are Monday to Friday during regular business hours, with the requirement to support work and on-call duties during off-hours, weekends, and holidays as needed. Travel may be required up to 10%.

Skills, Experience, and Requirements

Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree (B.S.) in engineering, physics, or mathematics from an accredited institution.
  • 6+ years of experience in spacecraft engineering within the satellite industry.
Skills and Qualifications:
  • Must be a U.S. Person (a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident) due to access to U.S. export-restricted materials.
  • Ability to fulfill a 24x7 on-call rotation and respond onsite within 30 minutes.
  • Proficient in mathematical concepts including probability, statistical inference, calculus, and geometry.
  • Capable of applying engineering principles and scientific methods to real-world problems.
  • Strong reasoning skills to define problems, collect data, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret complex technical instructions and manage multiple variables.
  • Experience with MAXAR FS1300 or Lockheed Martin A2100 spacecraft is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with Kratos ISI EPOCH TT&C and OASYS, MATLAB, and AGI STK software is a plus.
  • Knowledge in spacecraft subsystems such as Attitude Control, Propulsion, Power, Data Handling, Thermal, and Flight Dynamics is advantageous.
  • Detail-oriented, proactive, and confident with strong communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively in a multi-team environment.
  • Proficient in writing reports and technical documentation.
  • Capable of communicating technical concepts to diverse audiences.
Compensation and Benefits

Salary Range: $125,000.00 - $155,000.00 per year.
