OVERVIEW

The Retail Operations Leader serves as a vital partner to the Store Manager, ensuring that all aspects of store management are executed seamlessly. Together, they oversee the daily functions, drive success, enhance customer satisfaction, and foster team collaboration within the store.

In a manner akin to the Store Manager, the Retail Operations Leader is dedicated to coaching, nurturing, and motivating the team, ensuring alignment with JOANN's core mission and vision.

This role also embodies leadership qualities comparable to that of a Store Manager, guiding the team with assurance and enthusiasm.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

CUSTOMER CONNECTION
Builds enduring relationships with customers by understanding and anticipating their needs.
Acts as a community representative and brand ambassador for JOANN.
Encourages, mentors, and motivates the team to be exemplary brand ambassadors.
Maintains a strong knowledge of products and stays informed about new merchandise and industry trends.

OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT
Communicates new strategies, leadership updates, and promotional activities.
Ensures flawless implementation of operational policies and procedures.
Inspires the team to exceed sales goals by delivering exceptional customer experiences.
Develops strategic plans and equips the team with the necessary tools to meet performance indicators.
Responsible for handling freight, including unloading and sorting according to company guidelines.

MARKET INSIGHT
Stays updated on industry developments and seeks innovative ways to remain competitive.
Adapts to changes and shifts direction as necessary.
Analyzes sales reports to identify trends and create strategies for achieving both personal and store objectives.
Utilizes the FAST model to consistently meet sales targets and company goals.

TEAM DEVELOPMENT
Guides and inspires the team to enhance overall store performance.
Promotes a culture of continuous learning while fostering teamwork and appreciation among team members.
Identifies and develops in-store talent through succession planning and effective performance management.
Involved in recruiting, hiring, and training team members using the provided onboarding resources.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Must be able to stand for extended periods (excluding break times).
Continuously navigate all areas of the store throughout the shift.
Read written instructions, reports, and other materials on paper and digital screens.
Communicate verbally with customers and team members consistently during the shift.
Input data using computer keyboards and handheld devices.
Utilize 2-way radios for communication (receiving messages and responding verbally).
Move merchandise using appropriate equipment (carts, bins, etc.) between the backroom and sales floor.
Lift, position, and organize items on shelves and displays.
Bend and reach as necessary.
Climb and descend ladders.

Must be able to lift up to 49 pounds individually, and group lift up to 97 pounds (lifting requirements vary based on frequency and weight).


SUPERVISORY DUTIES
Assists the Store Manager with assigned responsibilities and tasks.

AVAILABILITY REQUIREMENTS

This full-time position requires flexible availability and the ability to work an average of 36 hours per week throughout the year.

Flexible availability means the ability to work any hours required, including days, evenings, weekends, overnight shifts, and holidays.

A Retail Operations Leader meeting these criteria is eligible for benefits within the company's full-time benefits program. Scheduling is based on store needs and the team member's availability.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Minimum Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent
Minimum Experience: 2+ years of relevant retail experience
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
Ability to manage multiple responsibilities effectively.
Experience in managing store budgets and labor resources.
Ability to maintain confidentiality in a retail environment.
Skills in recruiting and training new talent.
Adaptable and focused on change management.
Strong coaching and mentoring abilities.
Excellent problem-solving and organizational skills.
Outstanding customer service orientation and a "customer-first" mindset.
Proficient in inventory management software and POS systems.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
