Job Summary

The New York City Department of Education seeks a highly skilled and experienced Parent Coordinator to join our team. As a key member of the administrative team, the Parent Coordinator will play a vital role in engaging with and involving parents in the school community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement strategies to increase parent involvement in the school, working closely with school, parent, and community organizations.
  • Facilitate parent and school community concerns and issues, including school policies and facilities matters.
  • Conduct outreach to engage parents in their children's education, including convening regular parent meetings and events.
  • Collaborate with the school parent association to provide assistance in establishing by-laws, holding elections, and conducting their affairs.
  • Serve as a school liaison to Central and Field-based parent support staff, maintaining ongoing contact with community organizations providing services to the school's educational program.
  • Organize back-to-school and other events to increase parental and community involvement, creating a welcoming school environment for parents.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work in an area related to the duties described above.
  • Associate's degree or its educational equivalent and four years of experience in community work in an area related to the duties described above.
  • High school diploma and six years of experience in community work in an area related to the duties described above.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with the New York City public school system.
  • Presently or formerly a public school parent.
  • Experience with convening workshops.
  • Bilingual where there is a significant non-English speaking population.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
  • Conflict resolution and mediation skills.
  • Experience working with families and parents in education and/or community issues.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
Salary and Benefits

The salary for this position is $43,033 (New Hire Rate) to $71,614 (Incumbent - 2 years of full-time continuous City service).
