Job Overview:

As a CPI Investigative Supervisor I, you will engage in advanced consultative services and supervisory responsibilities within the Child Protective Investigations Division. This role entails overseeing a team of caseworkers dedicated to managing complex investigation cases.

Your primary responsibility will be to provide guidance and support to staff while monitoring case progress through data analysis to identify patterns related to child safety and risk factors.

In this position, you will be responsible for recruiting, training, and developing your team by utilizing performance metrics, individual discussions, and field assessments to ensure adherence to agency standards and enhance overall productivity.

Additionally, you will offer expert advice and analytical support to implement effective solutions for improving case outcomes, ensuring the safety and well-being of the families served.

As a supervisor, you will collaborate with various stakeholders, including program directors and external partners, to address sensitive and high-stakes cases, prioritizing timely and accurate reporting.

This role demands a proactive approach to decision-making regarding child safety issues, with regular on-call responsibilities as determined by regional needs, including availability during weekends and holidays.

Your leadership will ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards, as you engage with clients, legal representatives, and other involved parties throughout the investigative process.


Key Responsibilities:

Maintain regular attendance and fulfill assigned duties as per agency policy.


Direct and oversee case actions concerning safety and risk management on a daily basis.

Ensure timely communication with all parties involved in cases and continuously assess child safety by reviewing documentation for accuracy.

Evaluate team performance through case reviews and ensure that safety assessments are conducted promptly, facilitating referrals to community resources when necessary to mitigate risks.

Review cases for closure in line with departmental policies, consulting with leadership when unresolved safety concerns arise. (40%)

  • Implement program protocols, manage administrative tasks, and lead unit meetings. Review incoming abuse/neglect reports daily, providing case consultations to address child safety and risk issues, while ensuring timely family contact. Manage staff time and leave entries, overseeing overtime regulations. Conduct training sessions and monthly meetings to communicate essential updates, address productivity trends, and foster team cohesion. (25%)
  • Recruit, manage, and develop team members. Conduct field assessments, review performance data, and provide ongoing training and evaluations. Strive to cultivate a skilled workforce capable of supporting families effectively, ensuring the safety and well-being of children. Offer guidance on policies and best practices. (20%)
  • Collaborate with unit staff to interpret and communicate program policies to various stakeholders, including parents, children, and community partners. Build and maintain productive relationships to enhance unit performance and represent the program at relevant meetings and events. (10%)
  • Perform additional duties as required to maintain effective unit operations. (5%)

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Familiarity with state and federal regulations pertaining to child welfare.
