Job Overview:

The role of the CPI Investigative Supervisor I involves overseeing a team of caseworkers and administrative personnel engaged in complex investigations within the Child Protective Investigations Division. This position requires a high level of expertise in consultative services and technical support.

The Supervisor is responsible for providing case consultations and monitoring case statuses by analyzing data reports to identify trends related to child safety and risk factors.

Key responsibilities include recruiting, managing, and developing staff through performance evaluations, individual meetings, case reviews, and field assessments to ensure adherence to policies and enhance productivity.

Additionally, the Supervisor offers expert guidance and consultation to both internal staff and external stakeholders, aiming to improve service delivery and outcomes for families.

This position carries significant accountability for critical decisions affecting child protection and requires regular collaboration with various stakeholders to discuss sensitive cases and prioritize urgent reports.

The role demands a dynamic approach to daily assessments and decision-making regarding child safety, with on-call responsibilities that may include weekends and holidays.

The Supervisor ensures compliance with the Child Protective Services Handbook and relevant regulations while interacting with clients, legal representatives, and other involved parties.



Core Responsibilities:

Regular attendance and adherence to agency policies while performing assigned duties.


Directs daily case actions related to safety and risk management, ensuring timely contact and ongoing assessments of child safety throughout investigations.

Evaluates team performance through case reviews and ensures timely safety assessments and referrals to community resources when necessary.

Reviews cases for closure in line with departmental policies and consults with leadership on unresolved risk factors. (40%)

  • Implements program guidelines, oversees administrative functions, and conducts team meetings. The Supervisor evaluates daily abuse/neglect intakes, providing case consultations to address child safety concerns and ensuring timely family contact. Additionally, the Supervisor manages time and leave records and oversees staff overtime. Monthly training sessions and meetings are conducted to communicate essential updates and support team cohesion. (25%)
  • Engages in the recruitment, management, and development of staff. Conducts field visits, reviews performance metrics, and holds regular conferences to ensure compliance with policies. The Supervisor focuses on fostering a skilled team capable of supporting families and ensuring child safety and well-being. (20%)
  • Consults with staff and interprets program policies for various stakeholders, maintaining effective relationships to enhance unit performance. Represents the program at meetings and events to ensure quality and efficiency. (10%)
  • Performs additional duties as required to maintain unit operations. (5%)

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Familiarity with state and federal regulations related to the INV/AR program.
