As a Territory Manager, reporting directly to the Region Sales Manager, your primary responsibility will be to enhance sales performance and nurture customer relationships within a designated geographic region. You will be expected to communicate effectively and understand the needs of your clients, ensuring their satisfaction while exploring avenues for sales growth.
Painters Supply & Equipment, established in 1952, stands as a premier distributor of automotive and specialty paints, coatings, and related products in the automotive refinish and specialty coatings sector. We take pride in providing our clients with top-tier products from renowned manufacturers such as PPG, 3M, and Norton. With over 50 locations across 12 states, we serve more than 10,000 customers and are in search of dedicated individuals to deliver exceptional service and support our rapid expansion.
Key ResponsibilitiesSales
- Conduct sales calls and presentations to both potential and existing clients.
- Establish a consistent sales call schedule to meet customer needs and expectations.
- Gain familiarity with all products, including their applications and preparation within the PPG automotive line.
- Assist clients in selecting and applying products to build expert relationships.
- Enhance knowledge and skills related to sales techniques and methodologies.
- Create sales presentations and promotions to stimulate growth in current accounts and attract new ones.
- Maintain effective communication with vendors, particularly PPG, and maximize the use of cost-effective resources they provide.
- Participate in and lead product demonstrations with customers and factory representatives.
- Attend all sales meetings actively.
- Develop effective territory sales and marketing strategies.
Customer Service
- Be readily available to customers for advice and assistance via cell phone, voicemail, email, and in-person interactions.
- Foster strong relationships with clients.
- Investigate customer complaints and follow up in accordance with company policies and Quality Management System (QMS) procedures.
- Monitor and track customer back orders as per QMS work instructions.
- Provide technical and marketing training to customers as required.
- Assist customers in determining appropriate inventory levels.
- Support color verification and field color formulations.
- Ensure proper documentation for all consigned inventory and equipment according to QMS guidelines.
Marketing
- Gather reliable customer and territory data.
- Identify current market competitors and analyze their strengths and weaknesses.
- Understand Painters Supply and Equipment Co.'s competitive advantages.
- Interpret market information to identify opportunities.
- Actively seek to become a key knowledge resource for customers regarding automotive finishing and related products.
- Engage in special project assignments and complete additional duties as assigned.
- Develop, implement, and maintain action plans to achieve and exceed targeted revenue and profitability goals for both existing and new clients.
- Prepare sales call reports, proposals, quotations, forecasts, and business plans.
Management
- Manage expenses while adhering to budget constraints and maintain necessary records/documentation.
- Submit required reports and documentation to management within specified deadlines.
- Enhance knowledge of the automotive finishing industry through company training, trade journals, seminars, etc.
- Understand and comply with all aspects of the Quality Management System Manual.
- Manage paperwork flow and provide necessary documents as required.
- Be aware of sales goals and develop action plans to meet or exceed targets.
Additional Duties
- Answer phone calls professionally, providing knowledgeable responses and/or taking customer orders per QMS work instructions.
- Conduct oneself in a professional manner to meet customers' quality and service expectations.
- Operate a vehicle in compliance with all state, provincial, and federal laws while maintaining an acceptable personal driving record.
- Carry Automotive Insurance as per company policy guidelines.
- Assist in-store operations during times of need, such as vacations or medical absences.
- Support inside customer service as needed, including servicing customers and processing their orders per QMS work instructions.
- Process sales transactions using POS devices in accordance with company policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Demonstrated experience as a Territory Manager.
- BSc/BA in Business, Marketing, or a related field.
- Proven success in increasing sales and revenue; field sales experience is preferred.
- Ability to formulate sales strategies and utilize performance KPIs.
- Proficient in MS Office; familiarity with Salesforce is advantageous.
- Exceptional sales and communication skills.
- Strong organizational and leadership capabilities.
- Problem-solving skills.
- Willingness to work all scheduled hours as necessary.
- If using personal vehicle for company business, must obtain appropriate insurance per company policy.
- Must possess a valid driver's license in accordance with state, federal, and provincial law.
- Must maintain an acceptable driving record from DMV/MTO.
- Ability to lift and carry approximately 25 – 50 lbs. frequently and 75 – 100 lbs. occasionally.
- Employee will spend approximately 20% of the time sitting, 60% standing, 10% walking, and 10% stooping, climbing, and kneeling.
- Must be able to perceive color differences and wear safety equipment as required. Tolerance for non-toxic paint odors is necessary.
- Must be able to physically demonstrate paint and associated products using various product delivery systems such as spray guns and other related equipment.
