Job Title: Program Director

Join the Girl Scouts of Western New York Inc team as a Program Director and play a vital role in shaping the lives of girls through our camping program.

About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Program Director to lead our summer camp program. As a Program Director, you will be responsible for developing, implementing, and promoting well-rounded programs and activities for campers and staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement summer camp theme programs, including all-camp activities, camper's choice activities, and opening and closing campfires.
  • Plan and coordinate theme meals and ensure staff and campers participate in daily flag ceremonies.
  • Supervise activity counselors and submit written performance evaluations mid and end of season.
  • Review activity counselors' activity plans, offer support and guidance when necessary, and ensure they follow the camp program as indicated in the current camp catalog.
  • Participate in supervisory conferences, work closely with administrative staff, and conduct nightly rounds of the camp property.
  • Share responsibility with other administrative staff for required on-property weekend coverage.
  • Attend staff meetings, apply behavior management techniques to conflicts with children, and report incidents/accidents to supervisor or health supervisor immediately.
  • Submit a written evaluation of the position, noting strong points, weak points, and ideas for next season.

  • Ability to effectively manage and foster relationships with council staff, volunteers within the camp community.
  • Subscribe to the principles of the Girl Scout Movement and become a registered member of GSUSA.
  • Successfully pass the required background checks at hire and thereafter.
  • Maintain reliable transportation to and from home and work.
  • Assist campers in emergency situations.
  • Lift 35 pounds.
  • Possess strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to the needs of campers.
  • Demonstrate enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience, self-control, and ability to adapt well to changing situations.
  • Participate in structured and unstructured activities.
  • Accept and follow directions both in verbal and written form.
