Job Title: Boating Instructor

Join the Girl Scouts of Western New York Inc team as a Boating Instructor and contribute to the development of our campers' skills and confidence in a fun and supportive environment.

About the Role:

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Boating Instructor to join our team at Camp Timbercrest. As a Boating Instructor, you will be responsible for organizing and operating the boating program, ensuring that all activities are conducted in accordance with GSUSA, NYDOH, and ACA safety standards and procedures.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement boating and sailing activities that promote skill development and safety awareness.
  • Instruct staff in boating and sailing procedures during pre-camp training.
  • Teach water safety and boating, canoeing, kayaking, and sailing safety to campers and staff.
  • Develop and enforce boating and sailing safety measures for all campers and staff.
  • Participate in weekly lifeguard trainings and ensure the proper use and care of all equipment.
  • Work with the Trip Director to set aside supplies necessary for the out-of-camp canoe trip and conduct canoe trainings.
  • Lead by example, emphasize safety, and follow all ACA, GSUSA, and NYSDOH standards and regulations.
Requirements:
  • Minimum age: 18 (per New York State Health Department)
  • Current First Aid & CPR for the Professional Rescuer, and Lifeguard certification from the American Red Cross or equivalent.
  • American Red Cross Waterfront Module or willingness to obtain before pre-camp begins.
  • Sound judgment in anticipating and preventing accidents and calm response during emergencies.
  • Certified Sex Offender Registry and Criminal Background Checks will be completed for personnel file.
  • Ability to guide and supervise children and adults, and work well in a team environment.
