Job Overview

Position Summary:

The Surgical Technology Instructor/Clinical Coordinator is responsible for delivering comprehensive knowledge in surgical technology education. This role involves managing the instruments, supplies, and equipment essential during surgical procedures. The instructor must possess a thorough understanding of surgical processes and be proactive in anticipating the needs of the surgical team. The individual is expected to ensure high-quality patient care throughout the surgical experience while maintaining a sterile environment. Candidates should be well-versed in modern surgical equipment and demonstrate self-motivation, empathy, and excellent communication skills. The instructional staff will be tasked with providing theoretical content, assessing student performance, reporting on progress, and regularly reviewing and updating course materials.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Uphold program-specific policies that align with accreditation standards.
  • Exhibit excellence in teaching and conduct student evaluations as necessary.
  • Assist with student recruitment, advising, and registration processes.
  • Develop course schedules each semester and revise syllabi annually; coordinate course content and collect institutional effectiveness data for all departmental courses. Facilitate the selection of textbooks each semester for Dean approval.
  • Oversee classrooms, laboratories, and facilities to meet the educational needs of students.
  • Promote the program through engagement in community events and press releases.
  • Develop and continually revise the curriculum to ensure that student training and skill development align with employer requirements.
  • Actively engage in relevant consortia, partnerships, and organizations.
  • Support the mission and philosophy of the College.
  • Manage daily operations, ensuring adherence to policies and compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Address and resolve student concerns and complaints.
  • Create an effective learning environment for both lectures and laboratory experiences.
  • Facilitate learning for students from diverse cultural and social backgrounds.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of CAAHEP rules and regulations.
  • Experience in surgical technologist curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Familiarity with relevant computer programs and equipment.
  • Understanding of public relations principles and practices.
  • Awareness of regulatory issues related to the program.
  • Skills in monitoring and evaluating student performance.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities.
  • Proficiency in using computers and software applications.
  • Experience in designing curriculum and course offerings.
  • Ability to facilitate effective group interactions.
  • Problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective interaction with colleagues, supervisors, and the public.
  • Preferred experience in surgical technology curriculum development and evaluation.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • No direct reports.

Work Environment and Physical Demands:

  • Work is typically conducted in an office environment.
  • Minimal physical effort is required; however, the ability to occasionally lift or move up to 30 pounds is necessary.
  • Limited exposure to physical risks.
