Job Overview

Position Summary:

The Surgical Technology Instructor/Clinical Coordinator is responsible for delivering comprehensive knowledge in surgical technology curriculum. This role involves managing instruments, supplies, and equipment essential for surgical procedures, while possessing a thorough understanding of the procedures performed and anticipating the surgeon's requirements. The instructor ensures quality patient care throughout the operative process and maintains the integrity of the sterile field. Candidates should be well-versed in the latest equipment and instrumentation, demonstrating self-direction, compassion, and exceptional communication skills. The instructional staff is accountable for providing theoretical content, assessing student performance, reporting progress, and periodically reviewing and updating course materials.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Uphold program-specific policies that comply with accreditation standards.
  • Exhibit excellence in teaching and assess students as necessary.
  • Assist in the recruitment, advising, and registration processes for students.
  • Develop course schedules each semester and update syllabi annually; coordinate course content and collect assessment data for all departmental courses. Facilitate the selection of textbooks each semester for Dean approval.
  • Oversee classrooms, laboratories, and facilities to meet students' educational needs.
  • Promote the programs through participation in community events and press releases.
  • Design and continuously revise the curriculum to ensure student training aligns with employer requirements.
  • Engage actively in relevant consortia, partnerships, and organizations.
  • Support the college's philosophy and mission.
  • Manage daily operations, ensuring adherence to policies and compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Address and resolve student issues and complaints.
  • Create an effective learning environment for both lecture and laboratory experiences.
  • Adapt teaching methods to accommodate students from diverse cultural and social backgrounds.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of CAAHEP rules and regulations.
  • Experience in surgical technologist curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Familiarity with relevant computer programs and equipment.
  • Understanding of public relations principles and practices.
  • Awareness of regulatory issues affecting the program.
  • Skills in monitoring and evaluating student performance.
  • Able to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities.
  • Proficient in using computers and software applications.
  • Experience in designing curriculum and course offerings.
  • Ability to facilitate effective group interactions.
  • Problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective interaction with colleagues, supervisors, and the public.
  • Preferred experience in surgical technology curriculum development and evaluation.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • No direct reports.

Work Environment and Physical Demands:

  • Work is typically conducted in an office environment.
  • Occasional lifting or moving of items up to 30 pounds may be required.
  • Minimal exposure to physical risks.
