Position Overview

This role operates under the guidance of a licensed, registered dietitian nutritionist. The Clinical Nutrition Specialist is tasked with delivering nutritional care and education to patients and their caregivers. Responsibilities include evaluating patients' dietary needs, formulating and executing care strategies, assessing nutrient requirements, recommending dietary prescriptions, and monitoring patient tolerance and outcomes, while effectively communicating with physicians and other healthcare professionals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinates, reviews, plans, updates, and implements medical nutrition therapy for patients in accordance with established protocols. - 30%
  • Monitors patients receiving nutritional support. - 25%
  • Delivers nutrition education to patients, caregivers, staff, and community partners. - 15%
  • Acts as a mentor for medical, dietetic, and food service interns and/or clinical research participants. - 15%
  • Engages in interdisciplinary team meetings, patient rounds, multidisciplinary committees, and/or discharge planning. - 10%
  • Contributes to performance and quality improvement initiatives. - 5%
Supervisory/Management Responsibilities

This is a non-management position reporting to a supervisor, manager, director, or executive.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics institution and/or completion of an approved internship program.

Experience: No prior experience required.

Required Certifications/Registrations/Licenses
  • Registration with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND)
  • Licensure as a Dietitian in South Carolina
Additional Required Skills/Experience
  • Maintain 75 hours of continuing education every five years.
  • Ability to analyze data, educate, communicate with other healthcare professionals, manipulate numerical data, and document in medical records.
  • Experience in inpatient, outpatient, or community healthcare settings (PREFERRED).
  • Familiarity with AND, Joint Commission, Department of Health and Environmental Control, and Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services standards (PREFERRED).
