Position Title: Linux Infrastructure Specialist (Computing Systems Professional 1)

Organization: ISD-PS Programmatic Services

Overview:
The Infrastructure Service Division is in search of a motivated and client-oriented Computing Systems Professional 1 to join the Programmatic Services Group, specifically the Linux Server team. This division comprises a diverse group of around 85 experts, technicians, and students dedicated to providing desktop and server support across various computing environments.

Key Responsibilities:
The selected candidate will collaborate with a team to assist clients at multiple locations, engaging in a range of system administration tasks for servers and workstations, which include but are not limited to:
  • Supporting Linux/UNIX servers and desktop systems.
  • Installing, configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting servers, workstations, and network issues in a mixed environment.
  • Implementing and managing Linux solutions tailored to client workstation needs.
  • Supporting server/client virtual environments.
  • Addressing customer support inquiries and fulfilling requests through both remote and onsite assistance.
  • Diagnosing and resolving network issues, including file sharing and authentication problems.
  • Effectively communicating technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Qualifications:

Essential Requirements:
  • Fundamental knowledge of Red Hat Linux, including command-line interfaces and basic commands.
  • Basic understanding of enterprise configuration management tools.
  • Proven troubleshooting capabilities with workstations and servers.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills to ensure positive interactions with clients.
  • Eagerness and ability to independently learn new technologies.
  • Proficient in accurately documenting tasks and processes to maintain clear records.
Education/Experience: A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in scripting automated tasks (e.g., Python, Java, C shell, Bash).
  • Familiarity with formal ticket management systems, such as ServiceNow.
  • Knowledge of NIST guidelines and standards.
  • Experience with VMware, vSphere, and/or vCenter.
  • Active DOE Q-clearance.
Work Environment:

Commitment: Regular appointment employees are expected to maintain a period of continuous service in their current role to be eligible for other positions within the organization.

Additional Information:
Employment with the organization requires a favorable decision by NNSA regarding suitability under NNSA Supplemental Directive. A new-employment drug test is mandatory, and the organization maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random testing.
