Role Overview:

The Infrastructure Service Division is on the lookout for a motivated and client-oriented Computing Systems Professional 2/3 to join the Programmatic Services Group: Linux Server team. This division comprises around 85 skilled professionals, technicians, and students dedicated to providing desktop and server support for various computing environments. The division is structured into specialized server support teams that cater to both unclassified and classified programmatic and mission support requirements, along with a technical services group responsible for enterprise-level configuration management services for these computing environments.

Key Responsibilities:

As a Computing Systems Professional 2, your responsibilities will include:
  • Administering Linux/UNIX servers and desktop systems.
  • Installing, configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting servers, workstations, and network issues in a diverse environment.
  • Implementing and managing Linux solutions to meet customer workstation needs.
  • Supporting server/client virtual environments.
  • Resolving customer support issues and fulfilling requests through remote and onsite assistance.
  • Automating tasks using programming and scripting.
  • Troubleshooting and resolving network issues, including file shares and authentication.
  • Communicating technical information effectively to both technical and non-technical personnel.

For Computing Systems Professional 3:

In addition to the above, you will also:
  • Plan, design, document, and implement complex Linux solutions.
  • Test emerging technologies to ensure compliance with requirements.
  • Implement and support services such as CFEngine, Ansible, and LDAP on Linux systems.
  • Mentor and train fellow team members.

Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements:
  • Experience with RHEL/Linux operating systems.
  • Proficiency in scripting automated tasks (e.g., Python, Java, C shell, Bash).
  • Knowledge of enterprise configuration management tools.
  • Demonstrated troubleshooting skills with workstations and servers.
  • Experience with formal ticket management systems.

Additional Requirements for Computing Systems Professional 3:

To qualify at the higher level, candidates must possess:
  • Advanced experience with RHEL/Linux.
  • Experience with enterprise configuration management tools such as Ansible, Puppet, CFEngine.
  • Knowledge of STIGs and system hardening practices.
  • Experience in mentoring others.

Education:

For the lower level, a Bachelor's degree in a related field and a minimum of four years of relevant experience are required, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. For the higher level, a Bachelor's degree and eight years of related experience are required, or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. Advanced vendor and/or professional certification is desirable at this level.

Desired Skills:
  • Familiarity with NIST guidelines and standards.
  • Proficiency with Ansible for configuration management.
  • Knowledge of various Linux distributions.
  • Experience in Virtual Desktop Infrastructures (VDI).

Work Environment:

This position requires the ability to lift 40 pounds. The work location is onsite, and all work locations are determined by management.
