Position Overview

The Infrastructure Service Division is in search of a dynamic and service-oriented Computing Systems Professional 2/3 for the Programmatic Services Group: Linux Server team. This division comprises around 85 skilled professionals, technicians, and students dedicated to providing desktop and server support for various computing environments.

Team Structure

The division is structured into specialized server support teams that cater to both unclassified and classified programmatic and mission support requirements, alongside a technical services group that offers enterprise-level configuration management for these computing environments.

Role Responsibilities

This position may be filled at either the Computing Systems Professional 2 or 3 level, contingent upon the qualifications of the selected candidate. Additional responsibilities will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.

Computing Systems Professional 2 ($83,900 - $136,600)

The successful candidate will engage with a team to support clients across various locations, executing a broad range of system administration tasks for servers and workstations, including but not limited to:
  • Administering Linux/UNIX servers and desktop systems.
  • Installing, configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting servers, workstations, and network issues in a diverse environment.
  • Implementing and managing Linux solutions to meet customer workstation needs.
  • Supporting server/client virtual environments.
  • Resolving customer support issues and fulfilling requests through remote and onsite assistance.
  • Automating tasks through programming and scripting.
  • Troubleshooting and resolving network issues, including file shares and authentication.
  • Communicating technical information effectively to both technical and non-technical personnel.

Computing Systems Professional 3 ($101,700 - $168,200)

In addition to the above, the successful candidate will undertake the following responsibilities:
  • Planning, designing, documenting, and implementing complex Linux solutions.
  • Testing emerging technologies to ensure compliance with requirements.
  • Implementing and supporting services such as CFEngine, Ansible, and LDAP on Linux systems.
  • Mentoring and training fellow team members.

Essential Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:
  • Experience with RHEL/Linux operating systems.
  • Proficiency in scripting automated tasks (e.g., Python, Java, C shell, Bash).
  • Knowledge of enterprise configuration management tools.
  • Demonstrated troubleshooting capabilities with workstations and servers.
  • Experience utilizing a formal ticket management system.

Additional Requirements for Computing Systems Professional 3:
  • Advanced experience with RHEL/Linux.
  • Experience with enterprise configuration management tools such as Ansible, Puppet, CFEngine.
  • Knowledge of STIGs and system hardening practices.
  • Experience in mentoring others.

Education and Experience:
  • For Computing Systems Professional 2: A Bachelor's degree in a related field and a minimum of four years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • For Computing Systems Professional 3: A Bachelor's degree and eight years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Desired Skills:
  • Familiarity with NIST guidelines and standards.
  • Proficiency with Ansible for configuration management.
  • Knowledge of various Linux distributions.
  • Experience in Virtual Desktop Infrastructures (VDI).

This position is onsite. The work location is determined by management.
