We are looking for a skilled Principal Design Engineer specializing in Microarchitecture. This role involves spearheading the RTL development for one or more components of a high-performance CPU core. A solid understanding of the pipeline stages in both in-order and out-of-order CPU architectures is essential. The selected candidate will oversee all facets of design, focusing on Performance, Power, and Area optimization.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading the micro-architecture and design of critical CPU components or multiple sections of a CPU core.
  • Collaborating with the CPU modeling team to explore high-performance strategies.
  • Conducting microarchitecture development and specifications, from initial high-level architectural exploration to detailed specifications.
  • Configuring design features and refining RTL design to meet power, performance, area, and timing objectives.
  • Providing functional verification support and contributing to the design verification strategy.
  • Assisting in the verification of RTL design performance targets.
  • Working alongside a multi-disciplinary engineering team to implement and validate physical design aspects, including timing, area, reliability, testability, and power.
Preferred qualifications:
  • In-depth knowledge of microprocessor architecture, with expertise in areas such as:Instruction fetch and decode, branch prediction

    Instruction scheduling and register renaming

    Out-of-order execution

    Integer and Floating-point execution

    Load/Store execution, prefetching

    Cache and memory subsystems
  • Proficiency in Verilog and/or VHDL.
  • Experience with simulation tools and waveform debugging.
  • Understanding of logic design principles, including timing and power considerations.
  • Master's degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering with over 10 years of experience, or a Bachelor's degree with over 15 years of practical experience.
Additional assets:
  • Experience in designing RISC-V, ARM, or MIPS CPUs.
  • Familiarity with hardware multi-threading, virtualization, and SIMD designs.
  • Knowledge of high-performance techniques and trade-offs in CPU microarchitecture.
  • Understanding of low-power microarchitecture strategies.
  • Experience with scripting languages such as Perl or Python.
$225,000 - $285,000 annually

The salary range for this position across the U.S. is between $225,000 and $285,000. Additionally, this role may qualify for equity and other discretionary bonuses. MIPS provides a comprehensive benefits package that includes health, wellness, and financial incentives as part of a competitive total rewards offering. Actual compensation will be determined based on various job-related factors, including location, skills, experience, and education.
