Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Senior Design Engineering Leader to lead and own RTL development of one or more modules of a high-performance CPU core. The ideal candidate will have hands-on working knowledge of the pipeline stages of an in-order or out-of-order high-performance CPU core and be responsible for all aspects of the design including Performance, Power, and Area.

Key Responsibilities
  • Drive Microarchitecture and Design: Lead the micro-architecture and design of a critical CPU block or multiple blocks of a CPU core.
  • Explore High-Performance Strategies: Work with the CPU modeling team to explore high-performance strategies.
  • Perform Microarchitecture Development: Develop and specify microarchitectural research from early high-level architectural exploration to detailed specifications.
  • Configure Design Features: Configure and develop design features to target power, performance, area, and timing goals.
  • Perform Functional Verification: Support and assist in the design verification strategy and perform functional verification.
  • Partner with Engineering Team: Partner with a multi-functional engineering team to implement and validate physical design aspects of timing, area, reliability, testability, and power.
Requirements
  • Thorough Knowledge of Microprocessor Architecture: Have thorough knowledge of microprocessor architecture, including expertise in one or more of the following areas: Instruction fetch and decode, branch prediction, Instruction scheduling and register renaming, Out-of-order execution, Integer and Floating-point execution, Load/Store execution, prefetching, Cache and memory subsystems.
  • Programming Skills: Have knowledge of Verilog and/or VHDL and experience with simulators and waveform debugging tools.
  • Education and Experience: Have a MS degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering with 10+ years of practical experience or a BS degree with 15+ years of practical experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with RISC-V, ARM, and/or MIPS CPU: Have experience with designing RISC-V, ARM, and/or MIPS CPU.
  • Experience with Hardware Multi-Threading: Have experience with hardware multi-threading, virtualization, and SIMD designs.
  • Understanding of High-Performance Techniques: Have an understanding of high-performance techniques and trade-offs in a CPU microarchitecture.
  • Understanding of Low-Power Microarchitecture Techniques: Have an understanding of low-power microarchitecture techniques.
  • Scripting Language Skills: Have experience using a scripting language such as Perl or Python.
Compensation and Benefits

The base salary range for this role is between $225,000-$285,000. In addition, this role may be eligible for equity and other discretionary bonuses. MIPS offers comprehensive health, wellness, and financial benefits as part of a competitive total rewards package.
