Job Description

Avery Dennison is seeking a highly skilled Manufacturing Engineer to join our team at our manufacturing site in Ohio. As a key member of our Manufacturing Engineering team, you will have the opportunity to lead and execute new projects that are directly tied to key strategic goals for the business.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Promote a Culture of Safety: Contribute to a safe working environment by promoting safety as the most important value in the organization through training, process improvement, and other environmental, health, and safety responsibilities.
  • Document and Standardize Processes: Document standard processes and procedures for implementation and training to ensure consistency and efficiency.
  • Develop and Implement Production Methods: Develop and implement production/processing methods and controls to meet quality standards in the most cost-efficient manner.
  • Support Manufacturing Operations: Provide support to manufacturing to resolve production and quality issues that arise on a day-to-day basis.
  • Collaborate with Maintenance Team: Work with maintenance team members to perform root cause analysis and define corrective actions.
  • Review and Implement Maintenance Improvements: Review preventive or autonomous maintenance and implement improvements per Reliability Engineering standards.
  • Conduct Technical Inspections: Conduct technical inspections of complex machines to ensure they are functioning properly.
  • Recommend and Implement Improvements: Recommend and implement improvements and/or modifications in sequence of operations, equipment utilization, and related matters.
  • Evaluate and Approve Design Changes: Evaluate and approve design changes, specifications, and drawing releases.
  • Partner with Manufacturing Engineering Manager: Partner with the Manufacturing Engineering Manager to develop and execute projects that are a part of the Identification Enterprise Lean Sigma journey.
  • Manage Special Projects: Manage special projects, which could include supplier relationships, production performance management, sustainability, and other ad hoc projects.
  • Set Project Schedules: Set project schedules by monitoring project progress, coordinating activities, and solving problems.
  • Define Requirements for New Equipment: Define requirements for new equipment validation run-off.
  • Prepare New Machines for Operation: Prepare new machines and production equipment for operation.
  • Optimize Manufacturing Labor and Material Flow: Optimize direct and indirect manufacturing labor and in-plant material flow through the use of industrial engineering methods, including man-machine, line balancing, time studies, and value stream mapping.
  • Design and Plan Equipment Layouts: Design and plan equipment layouts to ensure efficient use of space and resources.
  • Comply and Improve Management of Change and Change Management Systems: Comply and improve Management of Change and Change Management systems to ensure smooth implementation of changes.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in a Related Field: Bachelor's Degree in a related field (Engineering, Mechanical/Industrial) or 2-4 years of experience in an engineering function in a manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of Electronic Systems: Knowledgeable in Electronic Systems (Wiring diagrams, Electrical motors, P&ID's, PLC logic, etc.).
  • Knowledge of Mechanical Systems: Knowledgeable in Mechanical Systems (Pump curves, Torque requirements, etc.).
  • Good Math and Analytical Skills: Good math and analytical skills to analyze data and make informed decisions.
  • Good Verbal and Written Skills: Good verbal and written skills to communicate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Good Organization and Attention to Detail: Good organization and attention to detail to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks.
  • Familiarity with Process Documentation and Improvement: Familiarity with process documentation and improvement to ensure consistency and efficiency.
  • Understanding of Computer Systems: Understanding of applicable computer systems, such as Microsoft Office and Google Apps (mail, docs, sheets, slides, forms).
  • Continuous Learning and Adaptability: Must be comfortable with continuous learning, role flexibility, and emotional intelligence to adapt to changing business needs.
