Position Overview

MasTec Inc. is looking for a Senior Estimator to oversee comprehensive project cost assessments for our operations. This role will serve as the primary estimating authority on various initiatives. Key responsibilities encompass attending pre-bid meetings as necessary, conducting site evaluations, managing bids, formulating cost estimates, analyzing subcontractor and supplier pricing, and performing risk assessments. You will collaborate with junior estimators who will assist with quantity takeoff comparisons and an estimating coordinator who manages solicitations to subcontractors and vendors, as well as documentation for qualification/prequalification and minority participation. Our Estimating Team thrives in a cooperative atmosphere, benefiting from the insights of our Operations Team. We prioritize a strong work ethic while promoting a healthy work-life balance.

The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in civil construction estimating. A solid understanding of roadway construction, excavation, underground utilities, contractual obligations, conceptual estimating, design blueprints, and project specifications is essential. Familiarity with risk analysis and demonstrated estimating expertise across various markets and geographic regions is required, with a preference for experience in Texas.

This role includes a bonus structure, relocation support, vehicle allowance, fuel card, and toll tag.

Location & Travel Information: This is an onsite position, primarily based at our client site in the Austin, TX/Pflugerville, TX area. Hybrid work arrangements may be considered on a case-by-case basis following an initial evaluation period.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct thorough quantity take-offs.
  • Define project scope for both self-performed and subcontracted tasks.
  • Analyze project documents to create clear, complete, and competitive estimates, general conditions, and bid clarifications.
  • Communicate project requirements and owner directives to preconstruction staff, developing strategies to achieve stated objectives.
  • Simultaneously manage multiple projects.
  • Develop value engineering solutions to align with client budgets.
  • Identify and assess subcontractors.
  • Participate in preconstruction meetings with the design team and client.
  • Address design gaps with assumptions that reflect the engineer's intent.
  • Prepare project clarifications and bid assumptions for owner submission.
  • Research local market conditions and their influence on costs.
  • Plan, organize, and coordinate effectively.
  • Attend relevant technical and professional meetings and seminars.
  • Establish timelines and objectives for timely estimate submissions.
  • Represent the company’s vision when presenting to potential clients, detailing MasTec's capabilities.
  • Ensure service quality meets project specifications.
  • Facilitate effective communication and collaboration on estimates across all disciplines and parties.
  • Provide risk and cost comparison analysis on estimates.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or equivalent progressive work experience with 7+ years of estimating civil construction projects, or 10+ years of experience in lieu of education.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of heavy civil construction, particularly in earthwork, underground utilities, drainage, and street/highway construction.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Experience with self-perform work.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to read and interpret plans and specifications.
  • Preferred experience with Agtek earthwork take-off software and HCSS Heavy Bid estimating software.
  • Willingness to collaborate in a team environment.
