Our mission involves the development of innovative, reusable, and cost-effective space vehicles and systems, all while fostering a culture centered on safety, teamwork, and inclusivity. We invite you to join our diverse group of problem solvers as we embark on new adventures in the realm of space exploration.

This position is integral to the Lunar Permanence division, responsible for advancing Blue Origin's various Blue Moon lander offerings. In alignment with our vision of establishing a sustainable presence in space, we are focused on creating reliable infrastructure for transporting both crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface.

As a member of our dedicated team of analysts, you will engage in comprehensive thermal and fluid dynamics assessments to optimize the performance and functionality of our spaceflight systems. Your expertise will help define hardware specifications and tackle technical challenges. We are seeking thermal and fluids engineers across all experience levels as we broaden our range of space vehicle projects. You will take charge of fluid system evaluations, performing 1D-3D thermal and fluid analyses, and play a vital role throughout the product lifecycle, from initial design concepts to the successful execution of flight missions. The analysis team is crucial in establishing component requirements and system dimensions, as well as evaluating flight or ground processes. You will be accountable for the documentation and upkeep of analysis inputs, models, and for presenting findings to stakeholders.

Key Qualifications

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering; advanced degrees are preferred.
  • Solid grasp of thermal and fluid mechanics, with relevant experience ideally in the aerospace sector.
  • Experience leading significant technical evaluations, such as space vehicle architecture design and P&ID development.
  • Proficiency in thermal modeling tools such as SINDA/FLUINT or Thermal Desktop is essential.
  • Ability to mentor and guide fellow engineers constructively, fostering trust and maintaining professional relationships while promoting a culture of collaboration.
  • Responsible for delivering large-scale analytical solutions and collaborating with engineers across various teams to achieve common goals.
  • Act as a technical mentor, possessing hands-on experience to resolve complex modeling challenges.
  • Train and support less experienced team members.
  • Oversee the successful execution of major projects, researching and implementing new technologies. Deliver high-level, multi-system architectural analyses that guide the team and partner organizations in addressing complex issues.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident, or legally admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in a technical leadership role is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with Propulsion Budget development for space vehicles during mission timelines is a plus.
  • Experience in modeling propulsion and cryogenic fluid management.
  • Knowledge of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) is beneficial.
  • Familiarity with additional tools such as MATLAB, Simulink, and Amesim.
  • Successful candidates typically possess 10 to 40+ years of proven experience in the design and analysis of aerospace thermal systems.
  • Advanced degrees (Master’s or PhD) are preferred.
  • Proficiency in one or more programming languages (e.g., MATLAB, Python, C/C++, FORTRAN).
  • Experience in the design of active/passive Thermal/Pressure Control Systems or components.
