Position Summary

The Director of Clinical Operations (DCO) plays a pivotal role in partnership with the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) and other nursing leadership. This position is tasked with overseeing the essential functions of the nursing department, ensuring effective management of resources, patient flow, and operational excellence.

Core Responsibilities

  • Compliance Oversight: Guarantee that all operations comply with relevant regulatory standards, including those set by the Joint Commission, CMS, and other state and federal entities.
  • Performance Management: Supervise the performance metrics related to hospital throughput and departmental productivity, leveraging data analytics to foster enhancements and achieve peak performance.
  • Quality Improvement: Spearhead initiatives aimed at process enhancement, safety protocols, and patient care advancements, as well as corporate objectives as assigned.
  • Systems Management: Serve as the primary liaison for the nursing department’s systems, overseeing tools such as Scheduling Excellence, PLUS, and clinical dashboards.
  • Data Utilization: Utilize innovative strategies and system knowledge to gather, interpret, and present data that facilitates informed decision-making.
  • Nursing Vision Advocacy: Uphold and promote the nursing vision, philosophy, and mission through exemplary professional conduct and communication.
  • Resource Allocation: Aid in the identification, justification, and procurement of essential resources, including personnel, supplies, and equipment for the nursing division.
  • Patient-Centric Environment: Model behaviors that cultivate a patient-centered care culture and an atmosphere of high employee engagement.
  • Collaboration and Partnership: Foster strong relationships with staff, clients, and medical professionals through effective communication and data accessibility. Participate in service line development and capital projects as required.
  • Operational Support: Enhance clinical practices and operational efficiency through leadership, effective system use, and teamwork.
  • Additional Responsibilities: Execute other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Licensure: A valid Florida RN license is mandatory or an appropriate compact license. If holding a compact license, an active Florida RN license must be obtained within 90 days of employment.
  • Certifications: Preferred certifications include Executive Nursing Practice and/or Healthcare Administration. Membership in the American Organization of Nurse Executives is also preferred.
  • Experience: A minimum of 5 years of progressive leadership experience in a healthcare environment, with at least the last 3 years in a direct leadership capacity within a hospital setting. A proven history in project management, productivity oversight, and resource management is essential.
  • Education: An Associate's Degree is required; a Bachelor's Degree is preferred.
