Position Summary

The Director of Clinical Operations (DCO) plays a pivotal role in the leadership and management of the nursing department, working closely with the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) and other nursing leaders. This position is responsible for overseeing the daily operational functions, including staffing management, patient flow, and resource allocation.

Core Responsibilities

  • Compliance Oversight: Ensure that all operations comply with relevant regulatory standards, including those set by the Joint Commission, CMS, and applicable state and federal regulations.
  • Performance Management: Monitor and enhance hospital throughput and departmental efficiency, leveraging data analytics to identify areas for improvement.
  • Quality Improvement: Spearhead initiatives aimed at process enhancement, quality assurance, and patient care advancements, aligning with corporate objectives.
  • Systems Management: Serve as the primary systems administrator for the nursing department, overseeing tools such as Scheduling Excellence and clinical dashboards.
  • Data Utilization: Utilize analytical skills to gather, interpret, and present data that supports informed decision-making processes.
  • Nursing Vision Advocacy: Uphold and promote the nursing department's vision and mission through exemplary professional conduct and communication.
  • Resource Coordination: Identify and secure essential resources, including personnel and equipment, to support nursing operations.
  • Patient-Centric Leadership: Foster a culture focused on patient care and employee engagement through effective leadership practices.
  • Collaborative Partnerships: Build and maintain strong relationships with staff, patients, and medical professionals through proactive communication and collaboration.
  • Operational Support: Enhance clinical practices and operational effectiveness through strategic leadership and teamwork.
  • Additional Responsibilities: Undertake other tasks as required by the organization.

Qualifications

  • Licensure: A valid Florida RN license or appropriate compact licensure is mandatory. If holding a compact license, an active Florida RN license must be obtained within a specified timeframe.
  • Certifications: Preferred certifications include Executive Nursing Practice and/or Healthcare Administration. Membership in the American Organization of Nurse Executives is also desirable.
  • Experience: A minimum of 5 years of progressive leadership experience in a healthcare environment, with at least 3 years in a direct leadership capacity within a hospital setting. Proven expertise in project and resource management is essential.
  • Education: An Associate's Degree is required; a Bachelor's Degree is preferred.
