CNC Programming Specialist – Technical Support

The Vertex Company is expanding and is in search of a CNC Programming Specialist – Technical Support to enhance our engineering team.
Position Overview:
We are looking for candidates to provide comprehensive engineering assistance within a machining environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Below is a selection of the responsibilities expected from a CNC Programming Specialist. The absence of specific duties does not exclude them from the role if they are comparable or logically connected to the position.
- Develop and adjust CNC programming for various production machinery.
- Conduct setups and validate programs on different CNC Mills, Wire EDM Machines, and lathes.
- Proficient in reading, interpreting GD&T, and analyzing engineering drawings, CAD files, production planning documents, and technical manuals.
- Formulate or assess machining process plans detailing necessary task steps and associated labor hour estimates. Implement controlled modifications to work plans or methods as needed.
- Evaluate documents, drawings, preliminary layouts, sketches, and notes to determine fabrication processes for prototype and production assemblies.
- Provide support on the manufacturing floor, ensuring prompt resolution of technical challenges.
- Review and create labor estimates for machining and sheet metal fabrication.
- Maintain and enhance existing statistical process controls while implementing new ones.
- Conduct manufacturing capability assessments and labor estimations.
- Assist or instruct Machine Shop personnel in the setup and operation of multi-axis CNC equipment.
- Perform related duties as necessary.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED is required.
- A Bachelor's Degree in a STEM field is preferred but not mandatory.
- At least 6 years of experience, or a combination of training and experience in programming, setup, operation of CNC equipment, and troubleshooting complex multi-axis fabrication projects.
- Previous experience in generating CNC programs using MasterCam and Pro-E (Creo) or similar CAD/CAM software.
- Two years of experience working with quality systems and processes.
- Extensive knowledge of machining ferrous and non-ferrous materials, as well as plastics, fiber, and rubber materials.
- Strong understanding of various cutting tools and the ability to determine/calculate appropriate speeds and feed rates.
Computer Proficiency:
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel. Familiarity with SAP or similar ERP software is advantageous.
- Experience in generating CNC programs with MasterCam and Pro-E (Creo).
- Familiarity with data repositories.
Communication Skills:
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills are essential.
- Ability to convey technical issues within and outside the job function (Engineering, Mission Assurance, customers, vendors, etc.) regarding policies, practices, and procedures.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the capability to manage challenging discussions.
Technical Expertise:
- The candidate must be able to read and comprehend machining requirements as detailed in drawings.
- Familiarity with geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
- Ability to support the manufacturing floor, ensuring timely resolution of technical issues.
Security Requirements:
The candidate must meet the criteria necessary to obtain a Government Security Clearance.
Physical Demands:
