Position Summary:
The Certified Medical Coding Specialist plays a crucial role in ensuring accurate coding of medical services. Under the guidance of the Utilization Manager, this position is responsible for coding internal Physician superbills and conducting necessary audits before submission for data entry.

Key Responsibilities:

  • CMS Program Management:
    Adhere to the BSHS CMS system manual and departmental policies. Maintain a thorough understanding of the coding division.
  • Superbill Coding:
    Utilize physician documentation from medical records to accurately code superbills.
  • Audit and Compliance:
    Review medical chart documentation to ensure accuracy prior to CMS data entry. Follow up on relevant reports from the CMS system regarding submitted data.
  • Documentation Management:
    Maintain an organized file system for collected information and entered data. Review reports related to claims submissions and updates.
  • Training and Development:
    Provide training to medical staff on diagnostic coding, documentation practices, and CMS coding reports.
  • Meetings and Communication:
    Participate in relevant committee meetings and departmental staff meetings to stay informed.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:
1. Certification in Medical Coding from an accredited institution.
2. Preferred experience of at least one year in medical coding.

Skills and Abilities:
1. Proficient typing skills.
2. Knowledgeable in medical terminology.
3. Competent in computer usage.
4. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
5. Familiarity with ICD-9, ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems.
6. Ability to follow established procedures and maintain effective working relationships.
