Job Overview

We are looking for an experienced Medical Billing and Coding Specialist to join our busy Podiatry practice. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in medical billing within a healthcare environment, preferably in a private practice or hospital setting. This is a full-time role, and part-time options are not available. Bilingual candidates are preferred but not mandatory.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Input charge data into the billing system and generate invoices.
  • Handle the processing of insurance claims, including Medicare, Medicaid, managed care, and other commercial insurance.
  • Assign appropriate codes for procedures and diagnoses, ensuring all clinical documentation is accurate.
  • Gather necessary information from physicians to complete the billing process.
  • Collaborate with healthcare providers to ensure that EMR templates meet billing standards.
  • Manage correspondence with insurance providers, including signatures and necessary forms.
  • Distribute billing copies in accordance with clinic policies.
  • Follow up with insurance companies to ensure timely processing and payment of claims.
  • Resubmit claims that have not received a response or are missing from files.
  • Work with team members to resolve outstanding accounts until they reach a zero balance.
  • Assist in resolving billing errors and checking claim statuses.
  • Maintain accurate billing records, reports, and files.
  • Participate in training sessions and educational activities.
  • Support special projects as needed by the office manager or administrator.
  • Uphold the highest standards of confidentiality.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent, with proficiency in computer applications and strong customer service skills.
  • Experience: Minimum of one year in insurance billing and general office duties. Candidates should possess knowledge of claims processing and demonstrate accuracy, good judgment, and initiative.
  • Certifications: Must be a certified coder through a recognized institution, with certification achievable within 90 days of employment.
Knowledge and Skills:
  • Familiarity with billing practices, clinic policies, and procedures.
  • Understanding of coding standards and clinic operations.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and the insurance industry.
  • Proficient in grammar, spelling, and punctuation for correspondence.
Skills:
  • Proficient in computer software, spreadsheets, and EMR or Practice Management systems.
  • Ability to use a calculator effectively.
  • Typing speed of at least 40 words per minute.
Abilities:
  • Ability to interpret policies and regulations accurately.
  • Capability to prepare documents in response to inquiries and complaints.
  • Attention to detail in examining documents for accuracy.
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
  • Proficient in sorting and filing materials correctly.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively.
