About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Roadway Project Engineer to join our team at Lochner. As a key member of our transportation design team, you will be responsible for establishing design criteria for assigned phases of projects, preparing detail and layout drawings, and reviewing manufacturers' or fabricators' prints for conformance with contract specifications.

Key Responsibilities
  • Establish design criteria for assigned phases of projects, applying basic engineering principles, material properties, and familiarity with construction, installation, and maintenance procedures.
  • Prepare detail and layout drawings and sketches of unusual, complex, or original designs, requiring the application of theoretical and practical engineering knowledge.
  • Review manufacturers' or fabricators' prints for conformance with contract specifications.
  • Provide guidance to lower-level design/drafting personnel in refining technical requirements.
  • Support field assignments and lead field walkdowns as required.
  • Check work assigned to lower-level design/drafting personnel.
  • Interface with other departments, clients, vendors, and project engineers to support project production.
  • Perform other related tasks in support of project engineer, such as writing procedures and specifications, compiling and computing engineering data, estimating, etc.
Requirements
  • 6+ years of transportation design experience.
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) is highly preferred.
  • Experience with KYTC is preferred.
  • CADD and/or drafting experience is required.
  • Experience in roadway design and related tasks on transportation projects.
  • Experience using engineering software such as MicroStation, InRoads/OpenRoads, IHSDM.
  • Experience modeling roadway design with OpenRoads is a plus.
  • Utility relocation and drainage design experience is a plus.
  • Solid verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks.
