Your Contributions:
  • Define design standards for specific project phases, utilizing fundamental engineering principles, material characteristics, and knowledge of construction and maintenance practices.
  • Create detailed drawings and layouts for unique, intricate, or original designs, applying both theoretical and practical engineering expertise.
  • Evaluate manufacturers' or fabricators' designs for compliance with contract specifications, providing guidance to junior design staff.
  • Assist in field assignments and may lead site inspections as necessary.
  • Review work completed by junior design staff for accuracy and quality.
  • Engage regularly with various departments, clients, vendors, and project engineers to facilitate project execution.
  • Support project engineers with related tasks, including drafting procedures, compiling engineering data, and estimating project needs.
  • May oversee administrative duties such as assessing manpower needs and managing drawing schedules.
  • Contribute conceptual insights during project planning phases.

Candidate Profile:
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in transportation design.
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) certification is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) processes is preferred.
  • Proficient in CADD and drafting techniques.
  • Experience in roadway design and associated tasks on transportation projects.
  • Proficient in engineering software such as MicroStation, InRoads/OpenRoads, and IHSDM.
  • Experience in modeling roadway design with OpenRoads is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of utility relocation and drainage design is a plus.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational abilities and attention to detail.
  • Capacity to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
