JOB OVERVIEW

The Senior Operations Accountant plays a crucial role in maintaining precise financial oversight and reporting of operational functions. This position involves monitoring, analyzing, and presenting financial information pertinent to exploration, production, and distribution activities.

This role requires a highly skilled professional who utilizes extensive knowledge to meet operational objectives. The Senior Operations Accountant operates autonomously with minimal supervision, potentially managing projects aimed at enhancing efficiency. This individual may also mentor and evaluate the work of junior staff. Challenges encountered are often complex and require thoughtful solutions. The ideal candidate demonstrates integrity, accountability, and transparency, aligning with our organizational values and culture.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Senior Operations Accountant will be responsible for:

  • Overseeing and reconciling financial transactions related to operations, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and internal policies.
  • Managing the general ledger for operational accounts, including journal entries, reconciliations, and financial analysis.
  • Coordinating the consolidation of financial statements across various business units.
  • Assisting in the formulation of annual budgets and forecasts for operational activities.
  • Evaluating operational performance, analyzing profitability, return on investment, and cost-effectiveness, and providing actionable recommendations.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure accurate expense and revenue allocation, while adhering to tax regulations.
  • Developing and implementing internal control measures to guarantee accuracy and compliance with financial policies.
  • Supporting external audits and liaising with auditors to provide necessary documentation.
  • Guiding junior accountants and leading initiatives to enhance policies and processes.
  • Staying informed about relevant accounting principles and best practices.
  • Performing additional duties as required.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS

  • Knowledge of industry standards, market trends, and regulatory requirements in the natural gas sector.
  • Proficient in financial data analysis, trend interpretation, and providing insights for strategic decision-making.
  • Expertise in budget creation, financial forecasting, and variance analysis.
  • Understanding of cost allocation methods and strategies for cost control and reduction.
  • Experience in preparing comprehensive financial statements, including balance sheets and cash flow statements.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office and relevant financial applications.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance is required.
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience is typically expected.

WORKING CONDITIONS
