About the Accountant II Role

The Accountant II plays a crucial role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of our financial data at GM Financial. As part of our General Ledger team, you will be responsible for managing and maintaining the core accounting records that support our business.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare journal entries, difficult and involved reconciliations, research and resolve exceptions, and analyze trends and costs to validate results.
  • Calculate and validate accruals, prepare monthly management reports and analysis, which includes ad-hoc, one-time requests.
  • Prepare reconciliations of assigned general ledger accounts, research, resolve, and document reconciling items which require critical thinking and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Answer questions from and provide requested information to both internal and external auditors, assist with documentation and compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley.
  • Consistently question unusual/non-routine transactions and account balance variances, participate in special projects as necessary.
Requirements:
  • Understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products, including Access Database.
  • Working knowledge of the Accounting Standards Codification.
  • Working knowledge understanding of financial statements.
  • Working knowledge of the accounts payable process.
  • Experience with database query tools, perform analysis on monthly financial statements and also on complex transactions.
  • Ability to multi-task and work independently.
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel.
  • Experience Bachelor's in Accounting, Finance or years of progressive experience in a true Accounting role (not Accounts Payable or Account Receivable) required.
  • 2-4 years in public or general accounting and/or financial analysis, preferably with a financial services background required.
