Position Overview

Salary: $22-$25 DOE

Baldwin Paving Company, Inc. is actively seeking qualified individuals holding a CDL Class A license to fill the role of Flatbed Driver. This is a full-time position reporting directly to the Grading & Pipe Site Foreman.

Role Summary

The Flatbed Driver is responsible for a range of tasks associated with the transportation and distribution of equipment and materials, necessitating a valid CDL-A license.

Key Responsibilities

  • Receive, route, and transport construction materials and equipment.
  • Inspect incoming equipment and materials for damage and necessary repairs.
  • Identify suitable handling methods and devices for moving items.
  • Prepare and manage all relevant paperwork and dispatching duties.
  • Maintain accurate logs, maintenance records, and transportation documents.
  • Ensure proper identification, labeling, and documentation for all shipments.
  • Assist the Foreman in determining freight shipping requirements.
  • Analyze technical transportation requirements.
  • Drive and maneuver vehicles in tight spaces and uneven terrain.
  • Operate vehicles on various road types and manage braking systems effectively.
  • Secure and distribute cargo appropriately.
  • Transport bulky items while ensuring proper load balance.
  • Occasionally navigate rough surfaces.
  • Collect items from job sites and local suppliers.
  • Conduct routine maintenance checks on assigned vehicles.
  • Maintain the vehicle's appearance and ensure it meets inspection standards.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Work Environment

  • Regular exposure to moving mechanical parts and equipment.
  • Work environment may be loud.
  • Exposure to dust, fumes, and various weather conditions.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and move items up to 50 pounds.
  • Manual dexterity and strength to operate equipment controls.
  • Capability to remain in various positions for extended periods.

Additional Requirements

Must demonstrate a professional demeanor towards colleagues and the public. Flexibility to work nights and weekends as needed. Adherence to safety protocols is essential. Teamwork and support for co-workers are expected.

Personal Protective Equipment

Compliance with PPE requirements as dictated by OSHA and company policy is mandatory. This may include items such as hard hats, gloves, safety glasses, and other protective gear.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience driving with a CDL.
  • Ability to follow both verbal and written instructions.
  • Possession of a valid, unrestricted Class A License.
