Baldwin Paving Company, Inc. is actively looking for a Traffic Control Lead to enhance our Traffic Control Division. This is a full-time position that reports directly to the Site Foreman. The ideal candidate should possess a minimum of 4 years of progressive experience in public works field maintenance, particularly in traffic signage and markings, along with experience in operating commercial vehicles and towing trailers.

This role involves working on an 8-12 hour shift schedule, including nights and weekends, with a focus on night shifts during the summer and day shifts in the winter.

Position Summary

The primary responsibility of the Traffic Control Lead is to oversee traffic management procedures to ensure the safety of the public and work crews at job sites. This role involves supervising tasks related to vehicular, pedestrian, and construction traffic control for heavy construction projects on roads, bridges, and highways. The Traffic Control Lead will implement and manage traffic control operations, including lane and road closures, and the placement of signs and devices in accordance with MUTCD standards and relevant regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Transport crew members to and from job locations.
  • Lead a team of 2 to 3 flaggers, assigning daily tasks, providing performance feedback, training new employees, and serving as a resource for staff. Maintain communication with flaggers via two-way radio.
  • Conduct traffic control and flagging operations as necessary, adhering to safety protocols at all work zones, including the placement of signs, barricades, and cones to manage traffic flow.
  • Estimate the time, materials, and equipment needed for assigned tasks; procure supplies and materials as required; assist in drafting contract specifications.
  • Operate pickups, flatbed trucks, and various hand tools while following all safety regulations.
  • Maintain a tidy job site by securing tools and equipment daily to minimize hazards.
  • Handle equipment storage and perform routine maintenance and inspections.
  • Load, secure, and unload materials and equipment, ensuring no damage occurs.
  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections to confirm operational safety.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable company, local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Communicate effectively with the paving and/or milling Foreman regarding daily activities.
  • Participate actively in safety meetings and training sessions for crew members.
  • Understand OSHA safety regulations applicable to hazardous traffic environments.
  • Utilize hand signals and directional signs to guide traffic around construction zones.
  • Assist in the setup and removal of traffic control devices.
  • Document license plate numbers of motorists who disregard traffic regulations.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Valid Georgia Class C or CDL driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to obtain DOT medical certification.
  • Ability to obtain ATSSA Worksite Supervisor certification.
  • ATSSA Flagger certification.
  • National Safety Council (NSC) certification.
  • Strong understanding of state traffic regulations.

Work Environment
  • Work will be conducted near active construction equipment.

Physical Demands
  • Occasional lifting/moving of up to 50 pounds or more.
  • Use of hands, arms, back, and shoulders for handling and positioning items.

  • Good manual dexterity and coordination required.
