Research Internship Opportunity

The research division at Children's Research Triangle is looking for qualified undergraduate students to engage in part-time, unpaid research internships. Most tasks can be performed remotely, with interns expected to attend the office once a week for in-person support. This internship offers flexibility in scheduling.

Interns will be involved in a variety of ongoing research initiatives, including:

  • Assessing a grant program aimed at providing early mental health support to children aged 0-12
  • Reviewing a grant program focused on community involvement in the Illinois Southland for children aged 0-8
  • Evaluating a grant program that offers training in Youth Mental Health First Aid
  • Analyzing a screening tool for substance use, including alcohol and tobacco
  • Creating a database related to children aged 0-18 who have undergone assessment and treatment at CRT

Interns will actively engage in various research activities, such as conducting literature reviews, compiling research materials, performing family interviews, and managing data entry and cleaning tasks using Excel and IBM SPSS. This internship is designed for students who wish to gain valuable insights into research and program evaluation within a non-profit context. Comprehensive training will be provided, and interns will receive guidance from team members, including a licensed clinical psychologist. A commitment of at least 6 hours per week is expected, with opportunities for additional hours. Internship durations can be arranged for one or more semesters.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants should be undergraduate students who have:

  • Completed a foundational course in psychology, behavioral science, child development, or social work with a grade of B or higher, or are enrolled in a pre-medical program.
  • Demonstrated academic excellence throughout their undergraduate studies.
  • Expressed interest in pursuing careers or further education in empirical research or medicine.
  • Exhibited strong collaborative skills in a team-oriented environment.

Compensation

Interns may be eligible for authorship on research papers to which they contribute significantly.

Application Process

Candidates can participate in interviews with the Research Team throughout the year, organized into Spring, Summer, and Fall cohorts. Interested individuals should complete the application forms for their preferred cohort.

Interview Timeline

Interviews for upcoming cohorts typically begin two months prior to the start of the cohort, depending on the availability of intern positions.
