Job Summary

The University of California, Santa Barbara is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Academic Coordinator to join the Center for Feminist Futures. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the advancement of feminist research, teaching, and engagement at the university.

Key Responsibilities
  • Program Management
    • Work in consultation with the Faculty Director to revise, implement, and enact the strategic plan.
    • Develop and implement operating policies, practices, and procedures grounded in feminist praxis to forward the priorities and initiatives of the Center.
    • Track and manage Center activities (programming, research clusters, student groups, etc.) in collaboration with the Director.
    • Facilitate and organize the publishing, recording, and archiving of Center initiatives.
    • Create summaries of accomplishments and activities.
    • Participate in producing annual review materials and reports.
  • Campus and Public Relations
    • Build constituency of the Center through outreach.
    • Support the Center's Advisory Committee.
    • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with various campus units such as feminist and ethnic studies departments, centers, and other units across the university.
    • Facilitate collaborations for research and engagement that involve faculty, students, and staff.
    • Build relationships with publics and community partners.
  • Communications and Programming
    • Work with Director and graduate student research assistant to develop and update content for Center communications including newsletter, social media, and website.
    • Coordinate efforts to document activities, which could include using data, pictures, videos, and other tools to tell the story of Feminist Futures.
    • Assist with coordinating programming events.
    • Serve as an on-site host and facilitator for events that take place in the Center as needed.
  • Public Scholarship and Teaching
    • Support the creation of materials and reports translating research for public audiences.
    • Run professional development workshops for graduate students.
  • Budget and Financial
    • Budget and track spending of Center funds.
    • Systematize and maintain financial files.
    • Monitor supply inventory, order supplies as needed, and track order receipt and delivery.
    • Work with the faculty director to maintain the financial health of Feminist Futures.
Qualifications
  • Master's degree or above in a discipline relevant to Feminist Studies.
  • Preferred qualifications:
    • A Ph.D. or progress towards a Ph.D. in or relevant to Gender/Sexuality Studies.
    • Several years of experience in research centers management or administration.
    • Experience generating policy reports.
    • Experience with grant writing and submissions.
    • Experience with public, community engaged, and/or digital projects and scholarship.
    • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion and/or experience working with LGBTQ, Hispanic, BIPOC, and/or underserved populations.
    • Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication, including the ability to communicate effectively with diverse range of constituencies.
    • Strong interpersonal communication skills.
    • Experience with project planning and management.
    • Ability to prioritize and execute multiple project activities simultaneously with attention to details.
    • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills, and the ability to act independently and proactively while working in a collaborative environment.
    • Experience with facilitating collaborative work across units.
    • Experience in event planning and execution, including media and space management.
    • Ability to work occasional nights and weekends as needed.
    • Experience supervising, motivating, and mentoring employees or students.
    • Familiarity with processes and procedures at UCSB.
