Job Overview

Position Summary

The Emergency Medical Care Technician - Paramedic (EMCT-P) is responsible for delivering both basic and advanced life-saving measures to patients experiencing medical emergencies in pre-hospital environments. This role requires the ability to work autonomously as well as collaboratively with EMT or Paramedic partners to evaluate and manage critically ill or injured individuals, adhering strictly to their professional scope of practice. The EMCT-P will provide care across all age groups, including neonates, children, adults, and seniors, and will be proficient in operating emergency medical equipment and vehicles.


Key Responsibilities

Patient Care
* Employs a collaborative approach to patient care delivery.

Assesses situations critically and requests additional resources when necessary.

Manages the evaluation and treatment of both simple and complex trauma and medical emergencies.

Administers CPR effectively for extended durations.

Identifies and addresses life-threatening conditions while assisting partners in their management.

Obtains and records manual vital signs accurately.

Interacts with patients in various circumstances with professionalism.

Maintains composure in unpredictable or emergency situations.

Engages professionally with all levels of pre-hospital care providers from diverse agencies.

Communicates directly with patients, families, community groups, law enforcement, and healthcare professionals.

Safely navigates interactions with high-risk patient populations.

Documents patient care thoroughly and accurately.

Possesses knowledge and skills to address the physical and developmental needs of patients throughout their lifespan.


Ambulance & Equipment Management
* Collaborates with partners to ensure that ambulances and workstations are fully stocked, cleaned, and prepared for daily operations.

Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge of Advanced Life Support (ALS) and Basic Life Support (BLS) equipment, including setup, usage, and maintenance.

Maintains proficiency in the operation and troubleshooting of all medical equipment utilized by the organization.

Assists in the application of splints and other immobilization devices as required.

Facilitates the swift deployment of necessary equipment for patient care.


Communication Skills
* Interprets and relays critical information through written, oral, and diagnostic forms to partners and clinicians.

Communicates effectively via radio and mobile devices.

Ensures continuity of care by relaying patient care needs to receiving healthcare providers.

Engages with various levels of pre-hospital care providers across multiple agencies.

Communicates directly with patients, families, and community groups, as well as healthcare professionals.


Emergency Vehicle Operations
* Operates emergency vehicles in both non-emergent and emergent situations, adhering to safety protocols.

Secures patients and other passengers using appropriate restraints.

Ensures the safe transport of medical equipment within the ambulance.


Education & Training
* Keeps abreast of the latest trends in pre-hospital and emergency medical services.

Serves as a mentor for new EMTs and Paramedic students, providing guidance and oversight.


Compliance & Safety
* Reports safety incidents promptly and participates in all safety training programs.

Ensures compliance with state and federal regulations and organizational policies.

Maintains current certifications and licenses relevant to the position.

Completes mandatory training modules and job-specific training within designated timeframes.

Adheres to all organizational policies regarding emergency vehicle operation and safety protocols.

Maintains a professional appearance in accordance with organizational standards.


Qualifications

Education
High School Diploma or GED - Required

Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in a related field - Preferred


Certifications & Licenses
Arizona certification as a Certified Emergency Paramedic (EMCT-P) - Required

Current BLS, ALS & PALS certifications - Required

Valid Arizona Driver's License with a clean driving record - Required

Must provide an official driving record prior to employment and annually thereafter - Required

PHTLS or ITLS certification - Preferred

National Registry Paramedic certification - Preferred

Maintains clinical competencies as assigned by departmental leadership.


Experience
Previous experience in a busy EMS environment - Preferred

Experience in patient care within a hospital setting - Preferred

Proficiency in using computers and basic software programs is essential in this technology-driven healthcare environment.
