Academic and Retention Coordinator

About the Position:
The Academic and Retention Coordinator in the College of Science plays a vital role in promoting student success and retention. This position is responsible for engaging students in COS majors and minors, providing academic and developmental advising, and supporting students' success throughout their undergraduate experience.
Responsibilities:
- Provides academic advising for students declared in majors and minors in the College of Science;
- Develops, implements, and evaluates academic support programs and services designed to enhance student success;
- Participates in university-sponsored orientation events and coordinates with faculty advisors to develop individualized success plans for students;
- Collaborates with university stakeholders to develop and implement retention strategies that align with institutional goals and priorities;
- Works with students who have been placed on academic warning or probation and identifies at-risk students to develop targeted intervention strategies;
- Assists in the development and implementation of COS Student Affairs events and utilizes Navigate/CRM to create reports and follow student progression trends;
- Creates and maintains advising materials for print and web purposes.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in a related field or the equivalent combination of education and experience;
- Experience as an academic or education advisor or in a related field;
- Knowledge of academic advising principles and practices, student development theory, and best practices;
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, organizational and time management skills, and ability to effectively prioritize tasks;
- Skilled proficiency in using modern office practices, methods, and computer equipment and software relevant to work performed;
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with diverse groups and to develop and implement programs and events.
About the Department:
The College of Science's Office of Academic and Student Affairs is responsible for enhancing and strengthening all aspects of the student experience. The Office is the primary physical space to welcome current and prospective students and provides guidance and support through recruitment, admissions, advising, assessment, retention, and student engagement.
