About the Role:

The Controls Specialist will support the plant and maintenance department in updating and maintaining plant electronic communications and controls in all areas, including office, processing, production floor, equipment, utilities, and inter-plant communications. This role requires a self-starter with a high degree of initiative, as these services are critical to the growth and success of the Reed City Yoplait plant.

Responsibilities:
  • Complete all work in a safe manner
  • Use Maximo computer software to manage work processes
  • Controls/Electrical troubleshooting of packaging, processing, and plant utilities
  • Participate in all phases of automation systems life cycle, including design, development, test, installation, startup, and support
  • Develop, apply, and enforce plant and corporate standards for control and automation systems
  • Serve as the plant expert in control and automation technology and train others in this technology
  • Work on plant-wide data acquisition systems, Ethernet communication systems, packaging, processing, and utility-related communications and controls systems
  • Improve the reliability of plant equipment across all platforms
  • Maintain and troubleshoot packaging, processing, and utility equipment
  • Conduct/execute scheduled preventative maintenance, corrective maintenance, and other work assigned by the Maintenance Team leader, Controls Engineers, or MTechs
  • Support and participate in continuous improvement tools and processes
Requirements:
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience as Industrial Electrician or Electronics & Controls or similar
  • Experience in practicing advanced methods in the application of PLC, Motion and Drive controls, and SCADA Systems
  • Experience with device and information networks, sensors, and other instrumentation to automate manufacturing systems
  • Ability to lift, move, push, pull 50 lbs. as needed, with or without accommodations
  • Strong electrical and controls troubleshooting abilities
  • Good computer skills, Outlook, Microsoft tools, Excellent communication skills and ability to partner/communicate with peers and Team leaders as needed
  • Strong commitment to professionalism and customer service
  • Ability to wear protective clothing and equipment as required
  • Ability to work in hot, cold, noisy, dusty, wet environmental working conditions
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Degree or certification in related field
  • Previous experience in a production or food manufacturing organization
  • Experience with Fanuc, Bosch/Indramat, Beckhoff, and Wonderware controls
  • Experience with Allen Bradley PLC hardware and software
  • Experience with Allen Bradley VFD system
  • Experience with Allen Bradley motion control drives and servo systems
Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Must be able to perform physical tasks for extended periods of time
  • Ability to climb and/or work at heights while utilizing stairs, ladders, personnel lifts, or platforms
  • Ability to wear protective clothing and equipment as required
  • Ability to work in hot, cold, noisy, dusty, wet environmental working conditions
