Job Summary

raSmith is seeking a highly skilled Structural Engineering Project Manager to lead our Structural Services division. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for managing structural design efforts, reviewing engineering drawings, and collaborating with clients to deliver high-quality projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Project Management: Organize and manage structural design efforts for multiple simultaneous projects while maintaining project budgets.
  • Design Review: Manage and review structural engineering drawings for assigned projects/work assignments, including the preparation of plans, schedules, and details.
  • Structural Systems Review: Review structural systems of primarily cold-formed steel framing for a variety of healthcare, commercial, retail, multi-family residential, industrial, and institutional buildings nationwide.
  • Calculation Review: Review structural calculations for submittal.
  • Team Management: Manage CAD and BIM Technicians to produce shop drawings and BIM models.
  • Leadership: Manage engineers on the team on larger projects.
  • Training and Mentoring: Assist with training and mentoring team members and technical skills training for professional growth and development.
  • Plan Review: Assist with plan review for team members.
  • Client Communication: Communicate with clients and maintain project schedules and design budgets.
  • Business Development: Help lead business development efforts for cold-formed projects, including identifying new opportunities and writing proposals.
  • Client Portfolio: Develop and manage a portfolio of clients.
  • Design and Construction Administration: Perform and lead the structural design of various building design projects, including development of structural design documents, calculations, and specifications. Perform construction administration duties.
  • Additional Responsibilities: Other duties as assigned.

Requirements
  • Education: Bachelors of Science degree in Civil Engineering with a focus in Structural Engineering from a U.S. accredited college or university.
  • Experience: Minimum of ten (10) years of professional experience in structural design of cold-formed steel building structures. Some experience with oversight is a plus.
  • Knowledge and Skills: Extensive knowledge of cold-formed steel design and light steel framing, strong working knowledge of AISI standards for cold-formed steel framing projects, ability to develop innovative solutions for complex problems, leadership mentality, and ability to work well with others.
  • Licensure: Professional Engineer Licensure required. Illinois Structural Engineer Licensure preferred.
  • Software Proficiency: Working knowledge of various structural analysis and design programs, including CFS Designer & RISA.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Applicable Work Experience: Applicable U.S. based work experience.
