POSITION OVERVIEW:

As a vital member of the healthcare team, the Inpatient Registered Nurse (RN) specializing in Dialysis plays a crucial role in delivering comprehensive patient care. This entry-level position within the Clinical Advancement Program (CAP) is designed for those who are dedicated to enhancing patient outcomes through effective assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation for a designated group of patients.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Inpatient RN is expected to perform the following duties while adhering to the policies and standards of Fresenius Medical Care:
  • Execute essential nursing functions under the supervision of the Nurse Supervisor, with support from Educators and Preceptors.
  • Conduct systematic assessments and document patient data throughout the treatment process, adjusting care plans as necessary.
  • Identify and address the educational needs of patients and their families, providing ongoing support and information.
  • Recognize deviations in patient conditions and collaborate with healthcare team members to ensure optimal care.
  • Deliver safe and effective patient care according to prescribed treatment protocols.
  • Evaluate daily patient care requirements and coordinate with the healthcare team as needed.
  • Facilitate communication between Fresenius and external dialysis providers to maintain continuity of care.
  • Administer prescribed medications and monitor patient responses, documenting any adverse reactions appropriately.
  • Participate in emergency response protocols as required.
  • Act as a resource for team members and assist in training new staff.
  • May provide specialized nursing education to facility staff as needed.
  • Be prepared to assist in outpatient settings as required.
  • Complete CAP requirements for professional advancement.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Supervisor.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

This role involves direct patient care, which may require heavy lifting and assisting with patient mobility. The work environment is typical of a healthcare facility, with temperature control and moderate noise levels. Responsibilities may include:
  • Frequent standing and bending.
  • Occasional movement of equipment weighing up to 200 lbs.
  • Handling of materials weighing up to 30 lbs.
  • Exposure to infectious materials.
  • Travel to various training and meeting locations as necessary.
  • Participation in on-call rotations and flexible scheduling, including nights and weekends.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

As a designated Nurse in Charge, the Inpatient RN may oversee Patient Care Technicians and other nursing staff after fulfilling specific training and experience requirements.

EDUCATION AND LICENSURE:

  • Current state nursing licensure.
  • Current CPR BLS Certification.
  • Compliance with practice requirements in all states of employment.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

  • Entry-level position for RNs with less than one year of nephrology nursing experience.
  • Minimum of 9 months of nursing experience, with a preference for 12 months.
  • Preferred experience in acute dialysis and hemodialysis settings.
