Position Overview


Are you enthusiastic about addressing intricate challenges? Join our innovative team as a Lead Systems Architect for the Mars Architecture Team Concept Study and become an essential contributor in supporting NASA as a valued Oceaneering partner on the JSC Engineering, Technology, and Science (JETS) II contract.

As a key member of our organization, you will play a vital role in the Advanced Projects section within the Engineering Department under the NASA JSC Engineering, Technology, and Science II (JETS II) Contract.

Typically, candidates will hold a bachelor's degree in engineering and have a minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience.

This position may be filled at any level within our professional career framework, depending on business needs at the time of hire.


International travel may be necessary. Options for straight time overtime, a 9/80 work schedule (every other Friday off), and/or one day of telework per week may be available.

Key Responsibilities

YOUR PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE:

  • Formulating concepts and defining future human space exploration vehicles and missions, including Mars surface exploration campaigns and long-term Mars surface missions.
  • Developing and refining conceptual vehicles through collaboration with multidisciplinary teams in a highly cooperative environment.
  • Contributing to architecture definitions and functional flows.
  • Engaging in requirements definition, flow-down, and assessment.
  • Conducting trade studies and stakeholder reviews.
  • Summarizing architecture and trade study outcomes, presenting recommendations to NASA leadership.
  • Collaborating within a team environment and reporting to the team lead on progress and issues.
  • Maintaining a professional relationship with NASA customers and other NASA support contractors.
  • Performing additional duties as required.
Qualifications

REQUIRED

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a closely related field, along with a minimum of five (5) years of experience.
  • Experience in requirements development, design trades, Concept of Operations development, risk analysis, and system analysis of space hardware.
  • Experience in creating operational concepts for single vehicle systems and across multiple space vehicles.
  • Experience in technology roadmap development and formulating technology infusion plans.
  • Ability to gather and understand stakeholder needs.
  • Experience with interface definitions for vehicle subsystems.
  • Experience with interface definitions between multiple vehicles or mission elements.
  • Experience in creating configuration growth or evolution plans and defining incremental capabilities for mission sequences.
  • Ability to define mission sequences within a single mission and across multiple missions.
  • Experience with testing and verification of spaceflight hardware.
  • Knowledge of systems engineering principles and associated documentation.

PREFERRED

  • Degree in electrical, mechanical, or aerospace engineering.
  • Experience collaborating with multiple NASA organizations.
  • Experience working across various NASA centers.
  • Experience with hardware or software development projects.
  • Experience in space mission analysis (e.g., orbit analysis, delta-V budgets, spacecraft constraint evaluation).
  • Familiarity with human space exploration systems (e.g., Orion, Commercial Crew, ISS, EMU/xEMU).
  • Basic knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures in the space hardware field, including mechanical and electrical system design, engineering drawings, and material selection for engineering products.
  • INCOSE Systems Engineering Professional certification.
  • Familiarity with system architecture tools such as DoDAF, TODAF, etc.
Proof of U.S. Citizenship or U.S. Permanent Residency may be required for this position.
Completion of a U.S. government background investigation may be necessary.
