Position Overview

The Space Systems Architect will play a crucial role in advancing human space exploration initiatives under the JETS II program. This position is essential for the development and planning of missions that will explore deep space.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Formulate innovative concepts and outline future missions and vehicles for human space exploration.
  • Analyze upcoming Lunar mission strategies, considering various constraints across multiple spacecraft such as Gateway, Orion, and HLS.
  • Engage in requirements analysis, including definition, flow-down, assessment, and verification processes.
  • Contribute to the creation of operational concepts and software Verification and Validation (V&V) strategies.
  • Collaborate with team members to identify potential risks and develop appropriate mitigation strategies.
  • Evaluate documentation for significant project milestones including CBR, PDR, CDR, etc.
  • Conduct reviews of Hazard Analyses.
  • Participate in HLS Project meetings and provide comprehensive summaries to technical leadership.
  • Conduct trade studies and engage in stakeholder review processes.
  • Work effectively within a collaborative team environment.
  • Report progress, challenges, and support requests to the team lead.
  • Maintain professional relationships with NASA clients, support contractors, and commercial partners involved in HLS.
  • Perform additional tasks as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:

This position is available at various levels, depending on the candidate's qualifications and experience.
  • U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Resident status is required due to the sensitive nature of the information handled.
  • A bachelor's degree in engineering is required, along with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Licensure and certification may be necessary.
  • Proven experience in early program concept development and formulation.
  • Expertise in requirements development, design trade-offs, operational concept creation, risk analysis, and systems analysis for space hardware.
  • Experience in creating operational concepts for both single and multiple vehicle systems.
  • Knowledge of technology roadmap development and technology infusion strategies.
  • Ability to gather and comprehend stakeholder requirements.
  • Experience with subsystem interface definitions.
  • Familiarity with interface definitions across multiple vehicles or mission elements.
  • Capability to create configuration growth plans and define incremental mission capabilities.
  • Experience in defining mission sequences for both individual and multiple missions.
  • Knowledge of testing and verification processes for spaceflight hardware.
  • Understanding of systems engineering principles and associated documentation.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Degree in electrical, mechanical, or aerospace engineering.
  • Experience collaborating with various NASA organizations.
  • Background in working across different NASA centers.
  • Experience in hardware or software development projects.
  • Familiarity with space mission analysis, including orbit analysis and spacecraft constraint evaluation.
  • Basic understanding of human space exploration systems (e.g., Orion, Commercial Crew, ISS, EMU/xEMU).
  • Knowledge of standard practices in the space hardware sector, including mechanical and electrical system design.
  • INCOSE Systems Engineering Professional certification is a plus.
  • Familiarity with system architecture frameworks such as DoDAF and TODAF.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • This position offers a 9/80 work schedule, providing every other Friday off.
  • Some travel may be required.
BACKGROUND CHECKS:
