Position Overview
This role is part of a unionized workforce. The program caters to adults aged 18 and older who are under the influence of substances and require immediate assistance in a safe environment. Our SoMa RISE site operates with a commitment to treating all participants with compassion, dignity, and respect. The facility is staffed by EMTs, health workers, and safety monitors, ensuring a 24-hour, welcoming, trauma-informed, and culturally sensitive environment focused on harm reduction principles.

As an Ambassador Outreach Worker (AOW) in Harm Reduction Services, you will serve as a community ambassador while conducting outreach in the neighborhoods surrounding the SoMa RISE Center. In this dual role, you will provide essential information about the SoMa RISE program and act as a bridge between the community and our services. Collaborating with EMTs, health workers, safety monitors, and supervisors, you will play a crucial part in ensuring that local residents, including those experiencing homelessness, feel safe and informed about our mission and services.

Key Responsibilities:

Direct Service:

  • Act as a liaison between the SoMa RISE program and the community, including unhoused individuals.
  • Maintain an outreach presence in the streets surrounding the SoMa RISE Center.
  • Represent HealthRIGHT 360 by providing clear and accessible information about our programs.
  • Engage with marginalized populations, demonstrating 'Good Neighbor' practices and directing individuals to necessary services.
  • Interact with all individuals respectfully and compassionately, employing harm reduction and trauma-informed care principles.
  • Motivate participants towards health initiatives through compassionate engagement.
  • Address participant needs, ensuring adherence to SoMa RISE values and protocols, and respond to crises and overdose situations.
  • Provide health education aligned with harm reduction principles.

Training:
  • Participate in ongoing training on radical hospitality, harm reduction, effective outreach, overdose prevention, and crisis response.
  • Engage in training related to trauma-informed service provision and team-based care.

Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • First Aid and CPR certification within 30 days of employment.
  • Experience working with diverse populations, particularly those facing substance abuse and mental health challenges.
  • Experience with individuals who use drugs and those experiencing homelessness is preferred.
