San Francisco, California, United States Mission Graduates Full time
Organization Overview:
Mission Graduates is a nonprofit dedicated to enhancing the educational outcomes of K-12 students in San Francisco's Mission District, ensuring they are well-prepared for and complete a college education. Our initiatives aim to reshape the expectations of college attendance among families in our community, making it a standard rather than an exception.

Program Insight:
The Parent Partner Program engages over 1,000 parents across various schools, empowering Latinx families to become effective advocates for their children's education and to support their journey toward college.

Role Overview:
The Community Engagement Specialist will play a crucial role in the Parent Partner Program, focusing on the implementation of initiatives at designated school sites. This position involves direct interaction with families, facilitating events, communication, and providing essential resources and information as needed. The specialist will collaborate with partner schools to define the curriculum and expected outcomes for the programs.

Compensation and Benefits:
We offer a comprehensive benefits package that includes fully covered Medical, Dental, and Vision insurance for employees, access to Pre-Tax Commuter Benefits, and eligibility for a 403(b) retirement plan upon hire. Additionally, we provide an employer contribution for qualifying staff, 13 paid holidays annually, 8 personal hours, and accrued Paid Time Off (PTO) for vacation and sick leave.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Planning, Communication, and Coordination:
Facilitate communication between schools, after-school program staff, and families regarding available resources and engagement opportunities.
  • Enhance school-family communication through newsletters, school messaging systems, bulletin boards, and parent-teacher conferences.
  • Encourage parent participation in school governance groups, such as School Site Council and English Learner Advisory Committee.
  • Collaborate with social workers and care teams to identify and distribute resources to families in need.
  • Organize and staff parent events, while managing responsibilities across multiple school sites.

  • Capacity-building and Professional Development:
Engage in Professional Learning Circles, attending regular meetings and training sessions with school and after-school staff.
  • Support school and after-school staff in building relationships with families to enhance student learning outcomes.
  • Participate in and co-facilitate monthly Family Engagement Team meetings to align family engagement strategies.
  • Assist in planning meetings and facilitate parent communication throughout the academic year.

  • Individual Support for Families:
Provide one-on-one support to families during office hours, addressing various topics including navigating school portals, applying for lunch programs, and accessing community resources.

  • Meetings and Coordination:
Conduct weekly meetings with the Parent Partner Program Director to discuss updates and work plan objectives.
  • Co-facilitate trainings and curriculum during monthly Parent Partner Program meetings.
  • Support the efforts of parent leaders through regular check-ins and training sessions.
  • Attend relevant training sessions to enhance community support.

  • Strong independent work ethic with excellent strategic analysis capabilities.
  • Outstanding organizational and time management skills.
  • Experience in culturally and linguistically diverse environments.
  • Proven experience in delivering training and workshops for adults.
