POSITION SUMMARY:

The Inventory Planning Manager is accountable for the comprehensive planning cycle, overseeing the calendar and deliverables for pre-season strategies, quarterly investment assessments, and in-season purchasing decisions. This role involves projecting sales, markdowns, and inventory levels consistently. The Inventory Planning Manager also identifies potential risks and opportunities, collaborating with merchandising partners to enhance sales, profit margins, and return on investment. This position supervises a team of merchandise planners and analysts, ensuring effective training and development for direct reports.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Pre-Season Planning:

  • Formulate seasonal financial strategies with targets for sales, margins, and inventory turnover, utilizing historical performance data, trend analysis, and brand strategies.
  • Collaborate with Merchandising and Sourcing to devise an assortment strategy based on historical product performance.
  • Establish quarterly investment plans by product category, ensuring a productive flow of receipts while rationalizing style and color counts.
  • Utilize channel insights from web, marketplace, and print catalog to inform assortment decisions.
  • Guide Inventory Planners and Analysts on:
    • Item and color level planning coverage.
    • Size analysis and the creation of accurate size curves.
    • Capacity projections for raw materials in replenishment items.
  • Oversee all milestones throughout the pre-season process in partnership with Merchandising, Sourcing, and Production teams.

In-Season Management:

  • Manage the monthly open-to-buy process for each category to project business outcomes and develop actionable items to optimize performance.
  • Lead the team in weekly evaluations of sales, margins, and inventory, partnering with Merchandising on necessary actions and managing open-to-buy processes. Responsible for pricing, reorders, cancellations, and maintaining appropriate stock levels of key items.
  • Accurately forecast and communicate future demands based on current performance, identifying risks and opportunities for upcoming seasons.
  • Provide regular reporting on business performance weekly, monthly, and quarterly.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Foster the development of high-performing team members, providing opportunities for growth within the organization and addressing performance issues promptly.
  • Build collaborative relationships with cross-functional teams to meet deliverables efficiently.
  • Become proficient in internal assortment planning and sales reporting tools.
  • Create reports that simplify decision-making processes for the brand using a consistent and sound approach.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • 7+ years of experience in a similar capacity.
  • Strong analytical skills and business acumen, with the ability to leverage data for meaningful insights into business performance and opportunities.
  • Deep understanding of retail mathematics, capable of using business results and metrics to formulate action plans that promote growth and mitigate risks.
  • Proficient in building relationships, developing collaborative partnerships with key stakeholders to drive informed decisions.
  • Effective problem-solving skills, capable of determining solutions through thorough analysis and understanding of business impacts.
  • Excellent communication skills, able to convey information effectively in both formal and informal settings.
  • Strong proficiency in Excel and familiarity with enterprise planning systems preferred.
  • Mindful of business processes, with a solid understanding of product development cycles and operations in a highly integrated business environment.
  • Able to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced, and evolving environment, continuously identifying areas for operational efficiency.
  • Ensure consistency in thought processes and best practices within the team and with planning partners.
