Position Overview

The Inventory Accounting Supervisor plays a pivotal role within the finance team, focusing on the management and reporting of inventory financials. This position is responsible for overseeing the inventory accounting team and significantly contributing to the monthly inventory reporting cycle.

Key Responsibilities

  • Enhancing controls and efficiencies within the inventory accounting framework.
  • Participating in business initiatives that influence inventory and cost accounting practices.
  • Managing the month-end closing process to ensure timely and accurate completion.
  • Implementing process improvements while ensuring compliance with essential business protocols.
  • Conducting ongoing reconciliations of in-transit inventory, Stock Ledger, and General Ledger to address and resolve discrepancies.
  • Processing various month-end journal entries related to inventory and cost of goods sold (COGS), along with preparing necessary reconciliations.
  • Analyzing month-end reports for variances against forecasts and budgets, and investigating unusual discrepancies.
  • Supporting process flow initiatives in collaboration with Supply Chain to maintain accurate inventory accounting and valuation.
  • Assisting merchandising and planning teams in evaluating inventory aging.
  • Reviewing cost reports, gross margin analyses, and variance assessments.
  • Tracking and analyzing inventory receipts.
  • Utilizing financial and accounting knowledge to assess sales, inventory, COGS, and margin performance.
  • Mapping and comprehending transactional inventory processes.
  • Providing inventory, general ledger, and supply chain support.
  • Presenting financial results to business partners.
  • Assisting auditors by providing necessary costing documentation for annual reviews.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in retail, manufacturing, or consumer products sectors with a focus on Inventory Systems.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office with strong analytical capabilities.
  • Self-motivated with a sense of urgency, accuracy, and teamwork in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience in leading change and implementing best practices.
  • Excellent communication skills, able to articulate clear and concise messages linking business challenges, financial outcomes, and strategic goals.
  • Familiarity with AS400 and Oracle Accounting systems is advantageous.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance is required.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation is preferred.
