Position Overview:

This role is pivotal in supporting the formulation and implementation of Discover Financial Services' (DFS) Enterprise Risk Appetite and Metrics program. You will drive our goal of ensuring that the Risk Appetite program serves as a competitive edge and adds value to strategic and business decision-making.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the DFS Risk Appetite Program, including the Risk Appetite Framework, Risk Appetite Statement, Metrics, Policies, Procedures, risk measurement methodologies, and reporting.
  • Enhance the Risk Appetite and Metrics program in alignment with evolving standards, regulations, and internal requirements.
  • Implement improvements to risk appetite frameworks by refining key risk metrics and linking them to various limit structures, while enhancing reporting for senior management and the Board.
  • Assist in advancing the Key Risk Indicator (KRI) program to boost the efficiency and effectiveness of risk and business metrics.
  • Collaborate with Risk Stripes (Credit, Operational, etc.) and business control functions to communicate requirements and provide constructive feedback.
  • Advise other risk functions on risk measurement and metric design, ensuring appropriate governance and control over metric selection and monitoring.
  • Work collaboratively with others to achieve timely resolutions of requirements, findings, limit breaches, and leadership objectives.
  • Utilize analytics to identify themes and trends across various risk types (market, liquidity, credit, operational, strategic, compliance) and facilitate discussions on addressing relevant issues.
  • Lead the development, maintenance, and implementation of a cohesive set of DFS's Enterprise Risk Management policies and standards related to risk appetite and reporting.
  • Build strong partnerships with leaders across the organization to enhance collaboration, provide consultation on risk mitigation strategies, and facilitate escalation of challenging decisions.
  • Oversee our enterprise risk management frameworks and strategy, providing an independent assessment of the aggregate risks faced by DFS, while communicating findings to executive management.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business Administration, Statistics, Analytics, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of experience in risk management within a financial environment, focusing on enterprise risk management or related fields.
  • 5+ years of experience in credit risk or non-financial (Compliance/Operational) risk management within a financial setting.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Finance, Business, or Analytics.
  • Experience in consumer credit, including loss estimation frameworks and methodologies.
  • Familiarity with stress testing and Comprehensive Capital Analysis and Review (CCAR).
  • Knowledge of other financial risk areas (liquidity, interest rate risk, capital) is advantageous.

Compensation and Benefits:

The compensation for this position typically ranges between $103,000.00 to $174,000. Additional incentives may be included as part of a competitive total compensation package. Various factors, such as geographical location, relevant experience, education, and skill level, may influence the pay for this role.
