About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Senior Oncology Veterinary Technician to join our team in the Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in providing exceptional cancer care to canine and feline patients, working closely with our experienced oncologists to deliver high-quality treatment and support to our patients and their owners.

Responsibilities
  • Provide technical assistance to veterinary medical and research staff in delivering cancer care, including medicine, surgery, and radiology to patient-owned animals.
  • Assist in the management and post-treatment care of enrolled patients, helping their recovery and ensuring a smooth patient discharge process.
  • Collaborate closely with the radiation oncology team to provide comprehensive care, including chemotherapy administration, radiation therapy, and diagnostic imaging procedures.
  • Educate and support pet owners in understanding and managing their pet's cancer diagnosis, providing clear explanations of diagnostics and procedures performed on their pets.
  • Participate in clinical research initiatives and foster close collaboration with medical doctors to drive advancements in veterinary care.
Requirements
  • High School diploma or equivalent, and five (5) years' experience working with animals in a clinical or research setting or in a veterinary practice setting.
  • Completion of a veterinary technology program or equivalent.
  • Credentialed Veterinary Technician preferred.
Working Conditions

Work is performed primarily in a clinic environment, requiring walking, standing, bending, turning, and stooping. Employees will be expected to request assistance with lifting or carrying animals or materials over 40 pounds. Work requires radiation exposure (x-ray, CT Scan).
