Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Electrical Field Engineer to join our Field Evaluations team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for performing technical evaluations of non-certified equipment, ensuring compliance with relevant standards and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Technical Evaluations
    • Perform technical evaluations of non-certified equipment according to specified standards (or in combination with other applicable requirements).
    • Ensure product meets technical requirements and is free of potential for fire and shock hazards.
  • Client Communication
    • Communicate with clients in a professional manner to schedule inspection appointments, review costing procedures, answer questions, and provide engineering review service and direction based on the scope of the Field Evaluation program.
  • Documentation and Reporting
    • Document, with sufficient detail, technical reports for required alterations to sub-standard equipment.
    • Reviews details of corrective action with client.
  • Research and Collaboration
    • Conduct research on technical and procedural issues, including technical research on standards, field evaluations guidelines.
    • Collaborates with Engineering and sales colleagues with respect to procedural issues, interpretation and past practices.
  • Travel and Remote Work
    • This position is home office based (completely remote) but with frequent travel to customer locations throughout North America and possibly other countries.

Requirements

  • Education
    • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related Sciences with 3 years industry experience; or
    • Engineering Technology or associate's degree with 5 years industry related experience; or
    • Electrician at the master level with 5 years industry related experience; or related technical field with 7+ years industry related experience.
  • Experience
    • Certification / Lab Testing experience preferred.
    • Working knowledge of laboratory instrumentation, as well as general laboratory procedures.
    • Knowledge of U.S. and Canadian based electrical standards and ability to apply these standards to local installation requirements and/or codes (eg. NEC, CEC, NFPA 790 & 791, SPE-1000 and hazardous locations standards).
    • NEC, NFPA, IEEE and UL standards.
  • Skills
    • Strong interpersonal skills; self-starter and independent; good decision-making skills and organizational skills.
    • Technically competent to evaluate all products, including new and unique products, with assistance of other technical staff as necessary.
    • Ability to manage multiple inspection files and changing schedules and deadlines with supervision.
    • Ability to use calibrated measurement instruments, high voltage test equipment, hand tools.
    • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and test data.
    • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
    • Strong conflict resolution skills to be able to handle difficult situations and customers.
    • The ability to utilize the complete office suite from Microsoft.
    • This position requires frequent travel with the ability to carry up to 50 lbs of test equipment in a rolling case.

Travel Requirements

Ability to travel as needed and/or with short notice (up to 75% travel).
