We are in search of a seasoned Principal Design Engineer - Microarchitect to spearhead the RTL development of one or more modules within a high-performance CPU core. The ideal candidate will possess a robust understanding of the pipeline stages associated with either in-order or out-of-order high-performance CPU cores. This role encompasses comprehensive responsibilities regarding design aspects, including Performance, Power, and Area considerations.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Lead the micro-architecture and design of essential CPU blocks or multiple components of a CPU core.
  • Collaborate with the CPU modeling team to explore high-performance strategies.
  • Conduct microarchitecture development and specification, ranging from initial high-level architectural exploration to detailed specifications.
  • Oversee the configuration of design features, assessing and refining RTL design to meet power, performance, area, and timing objectives.
  • Provide functional verification support and contribute to the design verification strategy.
  • Assist in verifying RTL design performance metrics.
  • Work alongside a multi-disciplinary engineering team to implement and validate physical design aspects, including timing, area, reliability, testability, and power.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Extensive knowledge of microprocessor architecture, with expertise in areas such as:
    • Instruction fetch and decode, branch prediction
    • Instruction scheduling and register renaming
    • Out-of-order execution
    • Integer and Floating-point execution
    • Load/Store execution, prefetching
    • Cache and memory subsystems
  • Proficiency in Verilog and/or VHDL.
  • Experience with simulation tools and waveform debugging.
  • Understanding of logic design principles, including timing and power implications.
  • Master's degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering with over 10 years of experience, or a Bachelor's degree with over 15 years of practical experience.
Additional Assets:
  • Experience in designing RISC-V, ARM, and/or MIPS CPUs.
  • Familiarity with hardware multi-threading, virtualization, and SIMD designs.
  • Insight into high-performance techniques and trade-offs in CPU microarchitecture.
  • Knowledge of low-power microarchitecture strategies.
  • Experience with scripting languages such as Perl or Python.
$225,000 - $285,000 annually

The salary range for this position across the U.S. is between $225,000 and $285,000. This role may also be eligible for equity and other discretionary bonuses. MIPS provides a comprehensive health, wellness, and financial benefits package as part of a competitive total rewards program. Actual compensation will be determined based on various job-related factors, including location, skills, experience, and education.
