Position Summary
We are in search of a highly experienced and creative Senior Material Research Scientist to enhance our dynamic team. The selected candidate will take charge of the research, development, and evaluation of cutting-edge composite materials for a variety of applications. This position necessitates close collaboration with cross-disciplinary teams to foster material innovation and guarantee the effective application of composite materials.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct the technical strategy in collaboration with government entities and mentor junior and mid-level personnel.
- Investigate, evaluate, and characterize the performance of advanced composite materials tailored for aerospace applications.
- Establish frameworks and methodologies to test, characterize, and model composite behavior in relevant conditions.
- Conduct tests on samples under extreme conditions, including high temperatures, chemical exposures in both active and inert environments, radiation, plasmas, and hypersonic scenarios.
- Utilize various material characterization techniques such as spectroscopy, microscopy, mechanical testing, and thermal analysis.
- Deliver both in-situ and ex-situ experimental assessments of composites, ceramics, and structural materials.
- Execute failure analysis employing non-destructive evaluation methods.
- Analyze data and interpret findings to inform the development of new materials.
- Compile technical reports, presentations, and publications to disseminate research outcomes.
- Collaborate with engineers, research scientists, data scientists, and AI/ML specialists to integrate composite materials into both new and existing systems.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in physics, mechanical engineering, structural engineering, materials engineering, chemistry, biochemistry, or a related discipline with a focus on composite materials, accompanied by 8 years of experience, or 6 years with a Master's degree, or 3 years with a PhD.
- Eligibility to obtain a Top Secret security clearance is required.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in the research and development of advanced composite materials.
- Demonstrated experience in leading technical projects and teams.
- Proficiency in techniques such as SEM, TEM, XRD, FTIR, DSC, and TGA.
- Familiarity with computational modeling and simulation tools for composite materials, including COMSOL and ABAQUS.
Compensation
$130,000 - $220,000, reflecting the typical compensation range for this role based on experience, location, and other relevant factors.
